How to walk on Water?

Cleaning up I found Marc and Angel Chernoff’s great so not little book 1000+ Little Things Happy Successful People Do Differently. I flipped it open and the tale was How to Walk on Water. The premise was there was a child running into the shallows and Marc asked him what was he doing? Trying to walk on water he replied.

Marc gave him 9 pieces of advice, here’s the list

1. Make sure you were born to walk on water

2. Decide that nothing can stop you

3. Work on it for real

4. Let the whole world know what you’re up to

5. Value the people who value your ambitions

6. Ignore the negative naysayers

7. Prepare your self for the pain

8. Enjoy the pain of your greatest challenges

9. Never give up! Never Quit!

Each have a vignette of words underneath them , I especially liked number five, so today we discuss being valued. I hold the work of Marc and Angel as being value so here is the link to their webpage www.marcandangel.com

I will face whatever Comes!!

What does the following question raise for you – What if I didn’t have to prepare to be present? Danielle LaPorte also suggests to do these three things in her book White HOt truth:

  1. Identify where you are already meeting with spirit in your life
  2. It’s important what you call your practice
  3. There is no competition
  4. Remember , it’s about ongoing practice , not permanency

Over my years I have meditated, taken a Buddhist name, done Landmark for seven years, ran marathons in Australia and Russia, but I like this summation by Danielle:

Even with steady devotion to your growth, your practices will ebb and flow. Some days you’re going to be riding high, dancing to merge with Shiva himself, or fasting to feel the pulse of the higher realms. other days , you’re just doing what it takes to not feel like shit.

So what are your life affirming practicing and what do the wise ones say about it, Lets have a look:

laq1

1. I once wrote the statement that we all have the same 24 hours in the day as Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela and Mother Teresa. Some people thanked me and others went apeshit. Where do you hold the truth in the above quote?

laq2

2. If you have had a bad day, you always have the opportunity to rise afresh: All I Ask.

laq3

3. Beauty is not attained by outer work like plastic surgery, it is purely inner work.

laq4

4. Who and What and Where you are is exactly where you are meant to be, how could it be different. Accept this and your life will become a whole lot easier: Who You Are.

laq5

5. This image seems to be of someone walking on water, rise up and you can do that.

laq6

6. Some people say we choose our parents before we start to live our lives, if this is true we are definitely strong enough to get through the bit after birth: Strong Enough.

laq7

7. That simple smile, thank you or words of gratitude can change a life, and you may never know.

laq8

8. With a heart to inspire single women to live their best lives and to never, ever settle, Mandy cuts to the heart of the matter with her inspirational, straight-talking, witty, and often wildly humorous take on life and love. She’s also not afraid to talk about the many realities of being single in a world that still asks “And WHY are you still single: Happiness is an Inside Job.

laq9.jpeg

9. When I was a child I loved my magical friends, the education told me they weren’t real. Now I’m discovering that probably this was not true.

laq10

10. They say that when it becomes too hard, the place to go to heal, is the music that enlivens us, I agree: I’ve got the Music in Me.

laq11

11. Worship what you love and Love the way you worship. Failure does not mean your dreams are dead.

laq12

12. Quite a life affirming belief from Kanye West. Could you think this, or even say it. Mohammed Ali, move over: Stronger.

laq13

13. let go of the non life affirming things in your life, you will feel like you have lost kilograms of weight.

laq14

14. The affirmation queen, Louise Hay began her literary career at the age of 50. So do not give up on what affirms you in your life just because it hasn’t happened yet: Flowing Life.

laq15

15. Remember in life affirming practices laughter is the best medicine.

Womens circles have existed for millennia, mens circles similar to King Arthur’s Round Table are returning. We find it impossible to be aware all the time, be your kind of devotee, your light chaser.

The Soul of Service!!

I’m suffering a hit of ecstatic bliss at the moment because I received Danielle LaPorte’s new book White Hot Truth in the mail this week. Subtitled Clarity for keeping it real on your spiritual path – from one seeker to another the small portion I have read delivers on all fronts.

I flipped the book open and came to the section on service, hence the title, the chapter also includes the words conscious optimism and giving from your fullness, I love this statement. In the chapter is this following quote:

I am driven by two main philosophies; know more today

about the world than I knew yesterday, and lessen the suffering

of others. You’d be surprised how far that gets you – Neil Degrasse Tyson.

The one comment I wish to make on the Manchester bombing is the graciousness the homeless man showed to the victims, he could of quite easily snuck off into the darkness of the anonymity of that subculture. For his kindness he has been gifted six months free rental of a house by the owner of Manchester United . This is what should be remembered about that horrendous event, not the event itself.

So what happens when you live from a space of giving, let’s have a look:

give1

1. A mining magnate in my country of Australia has gifted $400 million dollars , about 10% of his wealth to various charities. He said that making money is not about having bigger houses it’s about making a difference if and when you can.

giv2

2. Live the life you were really meant to, his holiness the Dalai Lama says happiness does not come from loving yourself first, it is from helping others and compassion: Give.

giv3

3. A kind gesture can be as simple as smiling at the person sitting next to you on the tram, train, or bus.

giv4

4. Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier: Love Life.

giv5

5. Perhaps an oxymoron but you need to create space so that you can give one of the great gifts in life, the joy of allowing others to give to you.

giv6

6. Time is a made up conversation, how much do you value it. The gift of quality time is priceless to another, much more than an object: Time after Time.

giv7

7. “Don’t Just

Don’t just learn, experience.
Don’t just read, absorb.
Don’t just change, transform.
Don’t just relate, advocate.
Don’t just promise, prove.
Don’t just criticize, encourage.
Don’t just think, ponder.
Don’t just take, give.
Don’t just see, feel.
Don’t just dream, do.
Don’t just hear, listen.
Don’t just talk, act.
Don’t just tell, show.
Don’t just exist, live.”
― Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart

giv8.jpeg

8. What’s your gift to the world, how are you doing in giving it away to others: Pablo Picasso.

giv9

9. Don’t be a two handed taker!!

giv10

10. There is no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up: Just the Way you Are.

giv11

11. Minimalism is a current fad, to make your life simpler by cleaning it up, giving away what you don’t use and not taking stuff you don’t need.

giv12

12. One of my dear friends is having treatment for cancer at the moment, I send her a song from Youtube on a regular basis to cheer her up, I also call her the divine one: Standup.

giv13

13. This is called the pay it forward philosophy, join the movement.

giv14

14. I am one of the chronic givers who fights the battle with being able to receive, I was well trained by my mum to be a lifelong volunteer: Castle on the Hill.

giv15

15. Give from Love.

So I will finish with another paragraph from Danielle:

Use your Soul. Stop, drop and send light. You believe in it so use it. After you dry your tears from the latest shooting or news headlines, take four minutes – twenty if you can – to sit in silence and very specifically send  love, positive energy, healing, light and prayers to the person, people, place or situation on need. How many times so we say to someone, “I’m sending you Love”?Really send it

Namaste until next time, my dear friends.

How do You ……..?

The Challenge of leading in a culture of never enough  is in chapter six of Daring Greatly which is headed Disruptive Engagement: Daring to rehumanize Education and Work. One of the questions asked in it is What’s the most significant barrier to creativity and innovation? The answer given is quite lengthy, but worth reading –

“I don’t know if it has a name, it’s the fear of introducing an idea and being ridiculed, laughed at, and belittled. If you’re willing to subject yourself to that experience and if you survive it, then  it becomes the fear of failure and the failure of being wrong. People believe they are only as good as their ideas and that their ideas can’t seem too “out there’ and that they can’t ‘know everything’ The problem is that innovative ideas often sound crazy and failure and learning are part of revolution. Evolution and incremental change is important and we need it, but we’re desperate for real revolution and that requires a different type of courage and creativity”.

The rehumanizing of work and education will take courageous leadership, so who is out there commenting on it,, let’s have a look:

lead1

1. How did you act when you were challenged, did you lead others or were you a victim to it?

lead2

2. Always remember that people you are leading have qualities that you must take in consideration: Don’t you worry Child.

lead3

3. If your people are just coming to work to collect their money at the end of the week, you are not doing your job as a leader, you are managing the Titanic just before it sinks.

lead4

4. If you train people to replace you and make yourself redundant that is closer to the mark of leadership: Mother Teresa.

lead5

5. I used to try and run away from my struggles, sometimes over a thousand kilometres, the only thing was when I got there, the reason for the struggles was still there because it was within me.

lead7

6. When I saw this I just had to include it to showcase why we should be very very afraid: Trump on Woman.

lead8

7. They can give you tips and techniques but it is what you do with them after the event that matters.

lead9.jpeg

8. If you are doing it for another circumstances in your life will start to get in the way, if you are doing it for yourself, well that’s a different matter: Pony.

lead10

9. This may be the only quote by Joshua J. Marine, there is little information about who he actually is.

lead11

10. Does leadership come from the head or the heart, I’ll let you answer that: Heart of Gold.

lead12.jpeg

11. One word: Leadership = Oprah.

lead13

12. The road to Leadership is not the road of less. It is in being better, more skillful and wiser: Wiser.

lead14

13. The quickest road to true leadership is to learn the lessons the first time they are revealed to you.

lead15

14. There are many books on the art of leadership out there, this quote speaks to the fact that that is what true leadership is, an artform: Art for Art’s Sake.

lead16

15. As I mentioned before in great leadership there is a quality of redundancy, that it would happen if you were not there.

So, famous people and totally obscure people make comment on leadership which means you still have the time to exhibit yours this lifetime, Go for it , we need you and it to flourish.

Namaste until next time, my dear friends.

I didn’t have to work hard for that!!

Universal Lesson: When we forget our peaceful nature, we can ask the Universe to remind us of what is real. From Gabrielle Bernstein’s The Universe has Your Back it states if you have gone through a particularly rough period of time the act of praying to your dominant life reality soon restores your belief in the planet and yourself.

So how do we determine our realities? A lot of it is gained through our childhood, our formative years and our education. Yet many of us do not exist in these realities as life deals us another route. Can we get back to them, let’s  have a look:

reality1

1. I am an English tutor, a Community manager, a dancer, a brother, an uncle, a son. What do you add after these two vitally important words?

reality2

2. What would it be like to free yourself from limitations and soar beyond your boundaries? What can you do each day to discover inner peace and serenity: Limits.

reality3

3. It is often what we are taught that creates our reality. Paulo Friere used critical pedagogy: Advocates of critical pedagogy view teaching as an inherently political act, reject the neutrality of knowledge, and insist that issues of social justice and democracy itself are not distinct from acts of teaching and learning.

reality4

4. Remember that you do not need to change your reality just because someone else disagrees with you, after all, it is only their opinion: All We Know.

reality5

5. Its interesting quotes can be printed with spelling mistakes, running is a way to change your reality, but I think the earth spins beneath your feet.

reality6

6. Probably the most famous reality quote in the world, Chinese philosopher is claimed to have written the iconic Tao Te Ching, which seeker of the truth does not have a copy of this in their book shelf:  Forest.

reality7

7. Perhaps a little graphic, this quote points to the face that sometimes we are blinded to what is our current reality.

reality8

8. I sometimes hanker for childlike innocence over wisdom, how about you: Agnus Dei.

reaality9

9. Joseph Campbell was an American mythologist, writer and lecturer, best known for his work in comparative mythology and comparative religion. His work covers many aspects of the human experience. His philosophy is often summarized by his phrase: “Follow your bliss.” Yes Please!!

reality10

10. I have found time and time again that this statement is true, my soul is where my reality lives: Heart and Soul.

reality11

11. We have a lot of realities during a calendar year, here’s a hint how many.

reality12

12. Imagine if all our realities were dreams competing with each other, that would be an interesting world to live in: Imagination.

reality13

13. How do you create your reality, with action or words? I’m a fan of the former.

reality14

14. Deepak Chopra questions standard medical genre with the belief that “human aging is fluid and changeable; it can speed up, slow down, stop for a time, and even reverse itself,” as determined by one’s state of mind. His books are worth a read: Re-inventing the Body.

reality15

15. Finally, let your passions create your reality, why wouldn’t you.

You and I , we are ultimately responsible for which reality we hang about in, a statement worth examining day by day.

Namaste until  next time, my dear friends.

Does it Violate the Golden Rule?

The Golden Rule is to do unto others as you would want done unto you. Rules that elevate some while devaluing others are suspect as bullshit rules – such as rules that grant or restrict opportunities based on skin colour, sexual orientation, religion, nationality, whether a person has a penis or a vagina, or any other arbitary or subjective criteria

A passage taken from Vishen Lakhiani’s excellent book The Code of the Extraordinary Mind that I am re reading at the moment. Vishen sets the premise there are two sets of truths, the physical world of absolute truths and the cultural world of truths based on Belief, he calls the second brules, aka bullshit rules that we adopt to simplify our understanding of the world.

He lists four major ones, 1. The college brule – we must go to college to succeed in life, 2. We must be  loyal to our culture Brule – Our nationality is better than the others, 3. The religion brule – My God is better than your God, and 4 The Hard Work Brule – If you are not working hard all the time, you are lazy.

So lets see what sort of life we could set up with the Golden Rule:

rule1

1. Why talk and say the unsaid words in haste when silence can speak the unspoken words?

rule2

2. Ready, Steady, Go: Ready, Steady, Go!!

rule3

3. George Bernard Shaw , known at his insistence simply as Bernard Shaw, was an Irish playwright, critic and polemicist whose influence on Western theatre, culture and politics extended from the 1880s to his death and beyond. He wrote more than sixty plays, including major works such as Man and Superman (1903), Pygmalion (1913) and Saint Joan (1923). With a range incorporating both contemporary satire and historical allegory, Shaw became the leading dramatist of his generation. He was the first person to be awarded both a Nobel Prize and an Academy Award, receiving the 1925 Nobel Prize in Literature and sharing the 1938 Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for the film version of Pygmalion.

rule4.jpeg

4. Self Love , one of the major golden rules. Have this and you will know how to deal with others: Born This Way.

rule5

5. Always be yourself, express yourself, have faith in yourself, do not go out and look for a successful personality and duplicate it.

rule6

6. The only time you should put others totally before yourself, if you wish them to spend their money: Keep the Customer Satisfied.

rule7

7. Instant Karma – It’s going to get You – John Lennon.

rule8

8. Actions not Words, my friends: Shake your Sillies out.

rule9

9. Are you willing to grant your golden rules to others?

rule10

10. If all these religions followed these rules the world would be a different  place, we could Lose ourselves to dance!!

rule11

11. I find this quotes extremely powerful, especially the what you see in others – exists in you.

rule12

12. Do you catch yourself saying those things to your children you promised yourself you would never ever say. Stop It: See You Again.

rule13

13. Three Super Golden Rules.

rule14

14. From Texas, The state where everything is bigger that everywhere else. The request is don’t get dirty: Dirt off your Shoulders.

rule15

15. Can your Golden Rules be heard over the screaming your actions create?

I recommend you buy and read his book Link to freight free site. It just may allow you to see where you have followed your brules in  life and give you another chance.

Namaste until next time, my dear friends.

A Gold Coin to a Cat!!

Luma Mufleh (born March 1, 1975) is founder and director of Fugees Family, Inc., (“The Fugees”) a non-profit organization devoted to working with child survivors of war. Mufleh founded Fugees Family in 2006 and is currently head coach of the Fugees soccer teams.

In the book Mistakes I made at Work Luma makes the statement – I’m always pushing our teachers: How can we create an environment where everyone feels capable? This is totally against the base of the education system of my country, Australia. It is purely rote learning to get a score to get into uni. The great teachers battle against this, trying to have kids see that education is about feeding their passion and going out and fulfilling them.

So how has capability shown up over the centuries? Lets travel down that well worn path:

cap1

1. Napoleon Hill (born Oliver Napoleon Hill; October 26, 1883 – November 8, 1970) was an American self-help author. He is well known for his book Think and Grow Rich (1937) which is among the top 10 best selling self-help books of all time. Hill’s works insisted that fervid expectations are essential to improving one’s life. Most of his books were promoted as expounding principles to achieve “success”.

cap2

2. What were you going to be when you grew up? Are you doing it. As children, we believed in our capabilities. What is our society doing that we belittle them through  our education system: Astounded.

cap3

3. I hope they mean everybody’s god, here are some facts regarding gods

Using the ratio of current population to the total number of people who have ever lived, we get an estimate of 63,000 religious groups throughout human history. (Only Homo sapiens’ religions are being considered. It may well be that other hominids believed in god or gods, but it would be pure guesswork to estimate the number of gods they believed in.)

The modern dominant (that is, have the most adherents) religions are monotheistic, but they are few in number. Wikipedia lists 309 Hindu deities. The ancient Hittites claimed to have 1000 deities in their pantheon. So for a rough estimate of the average number of deities per religion, we’ll take the average of these 3 figures, giving 440 deities per religion.

This gives an estimate of Gods = 28,000,000.

cap4

4. Kurt Einstein is definitely not Alberts son, but delves in the same area as his quotes. Its a bit like choices we make based on fear versus those of love of life: I’d love to change the World!!

cap5

5. Another by the great philosopher, Unknown. This quote reminds me of circling the wagons to defend yout life against the Indians in Western movies.

cap6

6. How old were you when your beliefs took over from your capabilities, I reckon I was about four. Before then I could save the planet because I was Superman, sorry about the Fanta ad.: What Now.

cap7

7. Hold the  press, my first ever Donald J. Trump quote. Is this Fake News?

cap8

8. Carl Philipp Gottfried (or Gottlieb) von Clausewitz; 1 June 1780 – 16 November 1831) was a Prussian general and military theorist who stressed the “moral” (meaning, in modern terms, psychological) and political aspects of war. He believed in European Enlightenment , this quote is definitely from that school of thought: Hot and Cold.

cap9

9. 7,000,000,000 unique capabilities walk this planet. Make yours as might as it can be!!

cap11

10. Very similar to the ethic if someone asks you to do something, say yes and learn on the way. Gandhi must have done this time and time again in his pursuit of freedom for India: Beginnings.

cap10

11. Do you know those people who can do anything. My brother in law was like that. He used to buy piano’s off Ebay, when he found out how much it cost to tune them , he googled it, and became a piano tuner.

cap12

12. Over the years, the slender, bespectacled Holtz has become known for his quick wit and ability to inspire players. He led six different American Universities to football titles. I think he spoke from mastery of the subject. That Fanta ad again: Irreplaceable.

cap13

13. One of the more profound proverbs I have ever read.

cap14

14. Surprising that one of the great singer songwriters would make this statement. I love pop divas,so I agree wholeheartedly: Don’t Cry for me Argentina.

cap15

15. At One Roof, the work co-op I hang around there is a statement, Jump off, and learn to fly on the way down. Learn as you go, and never stop learning.

Remember your capabilities as a child, the dreams, your imaginary friends, dragons and unicorns, you can walk on the moon.

She believed she could, so she Did!!

I met the new police inspector for our region at an interfaith celebration last month, she is a 28 year veteran of the force and specializes in Social Justice, Kelly has renamed her team Dynamic Darebin. I like it a lot, when do we declare something as dynamic in our lives? Are our relationships dynamic, our finances dynamic, our careers dynamic.

Let us have a look at what people have said over the years that they find dynamic:

dynamic1

1. Mahesh Sharma is an Indian politician belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party. He was elected in the Indian general election, 2014 from Gautam Buddha Nagar. He is a physician by profession.

If you wish to fulfill your ideas do not wait around.

dynamic2

2. From the prolific philosopher, Anon. comes worldly advice people will not be lead by you if you are not seen as dealing with them on a day to day basis: If You’re Out There.

dynamic3

3. Uneeka Jay is an award-winning speaker, personal consultant and the founder of Rewrite 365 LLC. Uneeka has over 20 years of progressive leadership experience in companies with revenues up to a half billion dollars. Using that experience, Uneeka effortlessly walks women through the process of rewriting their lives by refusing to settle. Rewrite is more than a brand for Uneeka; it is her life story.  Finding herself pregnant at age 16 and on welfare, she refused to allow statistics define her future.  She identified her Hatements (things preventing her from living her best life) and removed them one by one to achieve her goals. Uneeka lives her mantra; settling is not an option.

dynamic4

4. Your time is now, you are neither too young or too  old: The Climb.

dynamic5.jpeg

5. My friend and mentor Arion said he liked it when I laughed, that it was new for me. I gave up a long time ago when my life was endangered. I feel dynamic when I do it.

dynamic6

6. I think the person who takes a job in order to live – that is to say, for the money – has turned himself into a slave _ Joseph Campbell. Finally it’s never about the money: If we ever meet Again.

dynamic7

7. However you do  it, via keyboard or artistically by pen and pencil, remember they cannot get it out of your brain once you have passed.

dynamic8

8. When do you feel most dynamic? Doing your 9 ot 5 or doing what turns you on: Surprise, Honeycomb.

dynamic9

9. Start Young!!

dynamic10

10. Lolly Daskal is founder and CEO of Lead From Within, her proprietary leadership program is engineered to be a catalyst for leaders who want to enhance performance and make a meaningful difference in their companies, their lives, and the world. Based on a mix of modern philosophy, science, and nearly thirty years coaching top executives, Lolly’s perspective on leadership continues to break new ground and produce  exceptional results. Huffington Post honored Lolly with the title of The Most Inspiring Woman in the World: Brave.

dynamic11

11. Being dynamic also means standing up for your truth, nor pretending to like others.

dynamic12

12. Remember those times you thought, Why Me? And it turned you in a new wonderful direction  in your life, keep on keepin on: Everything happens for a reason!!

dynamic13

13. And aren’t we glad he followed his own advice.

dynamic14

14. This is such a beautiful ethos, may all creatives follow it: Heart of Gold.

dynamic15

15. Matthew Kelly (born July 12, 1973 in Sydney, Australia) is a motivational speaker, author, business consultant, and founder of Dynamic Catholic. He is a founding partner at Floyd Consulting, a management consulting firm whose clients include more than 35 Fortune 500 companies. His lecture topics include identifying negative routines and actions in daily life, and the value and positive inspiration of Catholicism on everyday life.

So for me I feel dynamic when I am blogging and teaching English to improve relationships between the cultures in Darebin, we have 164 different ones.

People are your Assignments!!

You are always being guided, even when you don’t feel like it. It comes with being part of the human race, a unique human being. We are all in a large classroom called Earth and the people you choose to know and even those we do not give us our assignments in life. How often do you become frustrated with our political leaders even though we have never met them?

So who do we choose as our most personal assignments? Often it is our family, as they are in our lives the longest, even though it may be at some distance later in life. So let us take a journey through our assignments:

ass1

  1. How many people have you met in your life, when you have thought, OMG, I am so glad I am nothing like them. They are there for that exact lesson

ass2

2. Joel Scott Osteen is an American preacher and televangelist. He is the Senior Pastor of Lakewood Church, in Houston, Texas. Osteen’s televised sermons are seen by over 7 million viewers weekly and over 20 million monthly in over 100 countries.  He gives you some sage advice as how to handle fear as an assignment in this quote: Fear and Love.

ass3

3. Number ten is the only one you can read clearly, that’s enough.

ass4

The Best Part of our Hearts!!

In  my community paper the Northcote Leader there was an amazing story of kindness reported the other day. Members of the community donated enough for a family to replace their car to take their daughter to school who has cerebral palsy after they were involved in an accident and their car was written off.

Stories like this  remind me of the kindness of strangers and not to give in to the dross that is marketed as mainstream media, that of death, killing, war and anything that seems to bring community spirit down. How do we remember to be kind each day, lets go there:

kind1

3. Amantine-Lucile-Aurore Dupin ; 1 July 1804 – 8 June 1876), best known by her pseudonym George Sand , was a French novelist and memoirist. She is equally well known for her much publicized romantic affairs with a number of artists, including Polish composer and pianist Frédéric Chopin and the writer Alfred de Musset. Wonder why she used a male pseudonym?

4. One of the main benefits of Kindness, we rise together: Rise.

5. Watching small children meet each other without judgement to me is the best example of this on the planet.
