Kempashen, give a piece of your heart!!

The lead article in my local paper, The preston leader is titled Seeking Compassion. it is about 20 grade six students at the Holy Name School who sent letters to the paper seeking compassion for asylum seekers to our country who have been in detention centres for up to four years.

Our  major support for these people, The Asylum Seekers Resource Centre said it was exciting to see young people getting engaged. ” It shows how much capacity all of us have to respond to issues in our society from an angle that’s compassionate, that respects people’s dignity and their humanity,” they said.

So, how compassionate are you on a day to day basis. or a bigger question could be how much is our society? let’s look at what they say about it:

comp1

1. I’m thinking they relate ears to compassion in that when we hear an opportunity to show compassion, it’s time to take action.

comp2

2. The ultimate compassion in life, Self Love, this allows you to never hurt another: Who Says

comp3

3. The person on earth who is best known for his compassion, HHDL, links compassion directly to our ability to be happy.

comp4

4. That smile that you just gave to the stranger you passed in the street just healed an age old wound. Yes, it really did, thank you for doing that: Heal the Wound.

comp5

5. Robert Lee Frost (March 26, 1874 – January 29, 1963) was an American poet. He is highly regarded for his realistic depictions of rural life and his command of American colloquial speech. His work frequently employed settings from rural life in New England in the early twentieth century, using them to examine complex social and philosophical themes.

comp6

6. Such a cute photo. More beautiful words from HHDL. If only our other world leaders thought in the same way: Where is the Love.

comp7

7. Thích Nhất Hạnh, born as Nguyễn Xuân Bảo on October 11, 1926 is a Vietnamese Buddhist monk and peace activist.

Thích Nhất Hạnh lives in Plum Village in Thailand, travelling internationally to give retreats and talks. He coined the term “Engaged Buddhism” in his book Vietnam: Lotus in a Sea of FireAfter a long term of exile, he was given permission to make his first return trip to Vietnam in 2005.

Nhất Hạnh has published more than 100 books, including more than 40 in English. He is active in the peace movement, promoting nonviolent solutions to conflict and he also refrains from animal product consumption as a means of non violence towards non-human animals.

comp9

8. That person in the mirror, they’re your bestie: Best friendship song.

comp8

9. Loving Kindness is a style of meditation that can transform your relationship to another, research it on google.

comp10

10. Compassion doesn’t just happen, you have to take a strong stand for it in your life and be keenly aware of it’s relationship to the others in your life: Interdependent.

comp11

11. I just fell in love with Prince for this beautiful quote.

comp12

12. Remember this when you are getting dressed in the morning: The Long Way Around.

comp13

13. Karen Armstrong won the $100,000 Ted prize, this is what she did with it:

The Charter for Compassion is a document that urges the peoples and religions of the world to embrace the core value of compassion. The charter currently is available in more than 30 languages and has been endorsed by more than two million individuals around the globe.

Charter for Compassion International, the Charter’s supporting organization, has enrolled 311 communities in 45 countries in its Compassionate Communities campaign and has partnered with more than 1,300 organizations to spread the Charter’s message of compassion in 10 sectors: the arts, business, education, environment, healthcare, peace, religion/spirituality/interfaith, science & research, social sciences and restorative justice. There is no cost to affirm the Charter.

comp14

14. This is the cutest vegan statement I have seen about compassion towards our fellow non human creatures: Song for Love.

comp15

15. Immanuel Kant was a German philosopher who is a central figure in modern philosophy. Kant argued that the human mind creates the structure of human experience, that reason is the source of morality, that aesthetics arises from a faculty of disinterested judgment, that space and time are forms of our sensibility, and that the world as it is “in-itself” is independent of our concepts of it. Kant took himself to have effected a “Copernican revolution” in philosophy, akin to Copernicus’ reversal of the age-old belief that the sun revolved around the earth. His beliefs continue to have a major influence on contemporary philosophy, especially the fields of metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, political theory, and aesthetics.

I have meet many people who show no compassion towards asylum seekers, the first question I always ask them is, have you ever met an asylum seeker and talked to them. Sadly, the answer is usually no. And then there are people filled with compassion towards them who would also answer no, the difference being their compassion level.

Namaste until next time my dear friends.

My Plan is To……..

There is much discussion as to whether you can lead a balanced life and succeed in the higher echelons of leadership. In his excellent book Leaders eat Last, Simon Sinek points out that not it is only possible it is in fact desirable if you are looking for an efficiently run company.

A leader who uses the top down management approach these days looks fated for the scrap heap. During the GFC of 2007 to 2008 fifty percent of America’s banks failed mainly due to their culture being based on making the holy dollar to the point that they had made some very unwise decisions in chasing larger and larger profits. Businesses that were more balanced in their cultures were able to survive due to the loyalty of their staff.

So what does a balanced life look like, let’s mosey on down that trail:

balance1

1. We create as much information every two days as we did in the entire year of 2003. I think this means that the chances of us doing everything have long gone by the way.

balance2

2. The near first female POTUS points to your job title is not the be all and end all of what provides a satisfactory life: Get a Job.

balance3

3. Love Thomas Merton, didn’t know he was a Catholic priest until just now. A Trappist monk of the Abbey of Gethsemani, Kentucky, he was a poet, social activist, and student of comparative religion.

balance4

4. What a living example Eat , Pray, Love is of this beautiful quote: I’m not in Love.

balance5

5. Star of 9 to 5, what a way to make a living, don’t have this be the major focus of your life and forget your dreams.

balance6

6. Number five seems a tad out of place from the rest: Who You Are!!

balance7

7. For me being silly and letting loose would be challenging, how about you?

balance8

8. Mindmapping , there are three or four for me that are not in balance at the moment: Mo Bounce.

balance9

9. One of the greatest living philosophers, Ms. Unknown shows us a tactic to inner balance.

balance10

10. Koan or meme, what will I call them today. But remember to watch and spend time in today’s beauty: You are so Beautiful to Me.

balance11

11. Attitude: when someone makes a settled way of thinking or feeling about something. … For example: You can tell a person’s attitude just by watching his body posture if he likes something or not. Aptitude: It’s a natural ability to do something or a natural tendency.

balance12

12. The greatest skill in  life one must get rid of if they wish to lead a balanced life: Confessions of a Perfectionist.

balance13.jpeg

13. We have all seen that cartoon  of life as we hope it will go versus how it actually occurs, we spend a lot of time undoing knots.

balance14

14. SETH GODIN is the author of 18 books that have been bestsellers around the world and have been translated into more than 35 languages. He writes about the post-industrial revolution, the way ideas spread, marketing, quitting, leadership and most of all, changing everything: Holiday.

balance15

15. I love this list, it has helped balance my life on a daily basis.

I actually have terrible balance on my left side, I can’t do the Tai Chi white crane at all, perhaps I need to look at what has it out of kilter.

Namaste until next time, my dear friends.

Time, not just Money!!!

Let’s say you’re moving to a new house interstate. To help you out one of your friends pay for the moving company. A very generous offer worth $5,000. another friend comes to your house and helps you pack the boxes, load the truck, travel with you to the new house, unload and unpack the boxes. Two weeks later, both friends need a favour on the same day. Who would you be inclined to help, the one who wrote a cheque or the one who committed time and energy?

Unlike the time and effort people put into something, it is what money represents that give it value. The cost of something is relevant to what people place on it whereas time cannot be given back. There are 2 million dollar watches and 10 dollar watches that both do the same job, possibly made with a process that took approximately the same time. How many times have you been in a meeting thinking, I will never get this time back.

So what has society said about the value of time versus money, lets delve into it:

time1

1. People don’t come around to your place to look at your possessions, they come to exchange stories of the great times that you spent together, your experiences.

time2

2. If you lock them up in the kennel , and only bring them out to show them off as an asset, no tail wagging: I Love My Dog.

time3

3. It’s what you focus on that gets the money rolling in, how you spend your time.

time4

4. We don’t go on and on about the time that some one gave us lots of money, the money soon is not there. But that time we were feeling suicidal and you held our hand all night, now, thats a different matter: Hold my Hand.

time5

5. Remarkably the only thing that is always there is you, not your money, your friends. It depends on how you direct your life that makes it work out or not.

time1

6. There are many meanings for prosperity such as wealth, success, profitability, affluence, riches, opulence, the good life, (good) fortune, ease, plenty, welfare, comfort, security, well-being; nowhere does it just say money: Prosperity.Yeha-Noha.

time7

7. A car cannot love you.

time8

8. Why are there so many books compared to museums. Simply put, people like stories that entertain, not things that people collected: Love Story.

time9

9. What children remember, not the toys.

time10

10. The big Tones take on it: you can’t get more time: Invest in Yourself.

time11

11. Two ultra rich musicians recently took their own lives, they were not happy because they were ultra-rich.

time12

12. Bhutan is a country that measures their gross happiness product, not their gross domestic product. Guess which country has the highest well being: Happy.

time13

13. Better known as the advice columnist Dear Abbey, this quote would have been written in the 1950’s or 60’s. I think it is far more relevant in our instant gratification days that we now live in.

time14

14. What should come first is your vision for life, not your bank balance. Fulfilling your vision means you are living life on your terms: Live your Life.

time15

15. Love does not carry a price tag, remember this daily.

Why do we call a business a “company” – because it is a collection of people in the company of other people. it’s the company that matters.

Namaste until next time my dear friends.

Namaste2

To move forward, you have to give Back!!

So what do you think about others? Gabby Bernstein in her book May Cause Miracles wrote the following Morning Reflection: Inner Guide, I call on you for help. I know I have chosen separation over love. For today, I choose to see everyone as equal and release my fear to your care. I wholeheartedly welcome your guidance. I ask that you teach me to perceive everyone as equal, and to see everyone as love. Teach me love through every holy encounter.

I live from five core desired feelings, one of them is H.O.P.E. – Helping Other People Evolve, because I realised a long time ago that my life was a whole lot better with empowered people in it rather than disempowered people.

So has there been much said about the empowerment of others over the centuries, let’s journey down that path:

hope1

1. Your acts of kindness may not make front page news, but for the person they are done for, they will always be remembered.

hope2

2. HHDL, the man who lives this the best on the planet, gets our prime purpose down pat: He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother.

hope3

3. Didn’t expect ot see a POTUS making this list, but what a beautiful image.

hope4

4. And how could I write about this subject without including the Queen of giving, Oprah Winfrey: Helping Others.

hope5

5. When someone ask you to help them get to where they want to, and together you achieve that, the shared joy is palpable.

hope6

6. And the rest of HHDL quote, don’t hurt others: Never going to give you Up.

hope7

7. Jet Li, actor and martial arts practitioner calls to us to believe that we all are one family and our purpose is to help each other.

hope8

8. Looking for your inner self, start doing things for others, the answer will come quickly: The best thing about me is You.

hope9

9. Actress and Humanitarian, Audrey Hepburn appeared in fewer films as her life went on, devoting much of her later life to UNICEF. She had contributed to the organisation since 1954, then worked in some of the poorest communities of Africa, South America and Asia between 1988 and 1992. She was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in recognition of her work as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in December 1992. A month later, Hepburn died of appendiceal cancer at her home in Switzerland at the age of 63.

hope10

10. Hang around with people who are up to making a difference with their lives, remember eagles fly above the clouds: Fly like an Eagle.

hope11

11. The motto is, you can’t do it on your own.

hope12

12. Prioritise your life, take with one, give with the other: Dancing on my Own.

hope13

13. Powerful Image, says it all.

hope14

14. Such a healthy lifestyle too: I was Here.

hope15

15. My mum need her torch at night so she can read the clock on her wall, what will you use your torch of kindness for?

Kindness created me kind. I come from love and kindness and I know this is who I am. Today I choose to remember my truth and share it with the world. Today I will spread loving-kindness to all those I encounter.

This affirmation is to remind you of who you are, a being of love.

Namaste until next time, my dear friends.

Forgive yourself for not Knowing!!

I was about to continue reading Danielle LaPorte’s magnificent book White Hot Truth when I discovered I had finished it and what remained was the index, I loved this book so much I considered reading it anyway. here is a link to Danielle’s page so you can get this book: Clarity for your life. I have been choosing subjects out of the book for my blogs as I have been reading it over the last couple of weeks. In the last few pages Danielle talks about Self-Compassion, I love this subject so that is what we will discuss today. Let’s walk down this sacred path:

selfc1

1. I am in a year long training program called the Activators training program which is to have you live from Essence during your days. Katie’s quote relates to what we practice on a daily basis.

selfc2

2. Why is this happening to me? I was discussing how does one have integrity with my mentor yesterday and this subject came up. That how powerfully you could be in the moment was your level of integrity: Divinity.

selfc3

3. At times in our life we need to be sad, angry even extremely pissed off. And yes, that is good for us.

selfc4

4. Coco Chanel used to talk about wearing more than one string of pearls. Why wear one if you can wear two, or something to that effect. I think that one string of pearls is just fine. But that’s because my pearls are black, hers were white. How many strings of self compassion pearls are you willing to grant yourself: String of Pearls

selfc5

5. Do you feel that, the rising of the sun within’s rays. That’s called transformation.

selfc6

6. Time to be that goody two shoes you have always wanted to be. Service, Kindness, Love, Generosity, etc.etc.etc: Try.

selfc10

10. You, yourself, the face in the mirror, the one they are talking too, they’re included: Seeing the Goodness.

selfc11

11. I am always talking to myself, I think everybody does. it takes something to turn that voice down. Be it a daily meditation practice like loving kindness, I find that having a practice changes the quality of the message to self love.

selfc12

12. Getting to know and accepting yourself, beautiful: F**king Perfect.

selfc13

13. Gautama Buddha (c. 563 BCE/480 BCE – c. 483 BCE/400 BCE), also known as Siddhārtha Gautama , Shakyamuni Buddha or simply the Buddha, after the title of Buddha, was an ascetic (śramaṇa) and sage, on whose teachings Buddhism was founded. He is believed to have lived and taught mostly in the eastern part of ancient India sometime between the sixth and fourth centuries.

Gautama taught a Middle Way between sensual indulgence and the severe asceticism found in the śramaṇa movement common in his region.

selfc14

14. Time to accept so you can create space for something else, your life is worth a great deal more than that perceived negative thought you just had: Firework.

selfc15

15. Remember having to take permission slips to school when you went on school excursions. Guess what, It’s your turn to write them for yourself, make them beautiful.

As Danielle finishes her book – May your beauty dawn on you. May your pure faith light the way. May all be so blessed. And hey… slow down if you need to, but don’t ever stop.

Forever is only the Beginning!!

You can trust the promise of this opening: Unfurl yourself into the grace of beginning. That is at one with your life’s desire – John O’donohue”

If you do not know who John O’Donohue is check out his brilliant book on Anam Cara, celtic for soul friend. My friend Em graced me with declaring me one of her Anam Cara’s – I had not heard the term or distinction until that moment but it explained a lot of people in my life when I researched it a bit. Begin to check out where these people are in your life because you are important, you are incredible, you are loved, your presence is needed here.

You can have a new beginning in every moment, let’s take a journey through them:

beg1

1. We get to add the colour to the film of our lives.

beg2

Aurelius was a Roman emperor in the second century. He was also one of the wisest men to have lived on our planet and wrote words that are read today still: Today my life Begins.

beg3

3. We are at the starting line of life moment to moment, they have fired the gun, time to go.

beg4

4. Imagine if we saw the universe instead of blue or grey skies, it would alter or perception of what is possible in life pretty quickly: You Can’t Touch This.

beg5

5. Get all that you know out of your head, and then you can begin anew, a fresh beginning.

beg6

6. The More effort you put in, the easier it will become. It eventually will flow as you want it to: Push It.

beg7

7. Seneca the Younger (c. 4 BC – AD 65), fully Lucius Annaeus Seneca and also known simply as Seneca , was a Roman Stoic/philosopher, statesman, dramatist, and—in one work—humorist of the Silver Age of Latin literature. Unfortunately he was born in the time of the Roman emperor Nero, the fiddle as rome burned one who made him take is own life for being a suspect in an assassination attempt.

beg8

8. 4E’s that make a difference on an ongoing basis: Life’s what you make It.

beg9

9. definitely the most well known of the quotes I have chosen today.

beg10

10. You can’t change the events of the past, may be you can change the effect it has on you by focusing on what can be: Company.

beg11

11. The seed becomes a mighty tree, says it all really.

beg12

12. They make fantasy films about the other possibility. If we get this our lives transform: Song for a new Beginning.

beg13

13. I love the last line. Who are you when you are with people, do you ring a new beginning each time, or is it based on past memories?

beg14

14. Are you prepared to be  pissed off to allow new beginnings on your life. To face that which you thought was unfaceable: Just like a Pill.

beg15

15. And here is a plan for your new beginning.

You deserve – eye contact, smiles in the morning, food made with pure intention, clean drinking water, fresh air, Hello, Please , Thankyou, time to think about it, a chance to show them what you’re made of, a second chance, an education, health care, including dental, multiple orgasms, weekends off, eight hours of sleep, play before work, to change your mind, to say no, to say yes, to have your deepest needs met, to be seen, to be loved for who you really are.

You deserve all of this – and more –  just because you showed up to life.

Namaste until next time, my dear friends.

Every Experience makes you Grow!!!

The four major areas that this occurs for me are my love relationships, my friendships, my adventures, my environment, my health and fitness, my intellectual life, my skills, my spiritual life, my career, my creative life, my family life and my community life. These are my areas of experiences, growth and contribution. Today I would like to discuss how we handle growth in our  lives.

When you watch how young children soak up information, you realise how deeply wired we are to learn and grow. Why does it seem to falter as we grow older? Why can’t we continue to learn and grow until the day we leave this mortal coil. I think we actually do , it’s what we do with  it that makes the difference. Lets take a journey down the growth path over the years:

growth1

1. After publishing four bestselling books in five years, Sarah Allen took a hiatus when she was diagnosed with late-stage breast cancer at age 39. She returned to writing with her 2014 bestselling Lost Lake. She is now in remission. In 2015, she revisited the popular setting of her first book..

growth2

2. I don’t look the same as when I was expelled from Eaglehawk High School  in 1972 for not attending and generally not giving a toss about formal education. Also the journey I have taken since those days into education that makes a difference means that I have grown exponentially since those days long ago: Try Everything.

growth3

3. Remember when that door didn’t open for you last year. That was meant to happen so that you can be where you are now.

growth4

4. Your growth is up to you, not the stories of others. All the great people on the planet got there listening to their stories, not the tales of others: My Story.

growth5

5. Ralph Waldo Emerson was an American essayist, lecturer, and poet who led the transcendentalist movement of the mid-19th century. He was seen as a champion of individualism and a prescient critic of the countervailing pressures of society.

growth6

6. Differents stages in life that that will have you end up in a powerful place: Rest of my Life.

growth7

7. There’s a scene in a good or bad Steve Martin film called Parenthood where his family is going apeshit and the screen becomes like a roll coaster ride. He rides it for a while then life begins to flow again.

growth8

8. The author of the inspiring The Monk who sold his Ferrari, Robin Sharma’s words and life speaks of the possibility of having gorgeous in our lives: Gorgeous.

growth9

9. Founder of the Firestone Tyre company Harvey wrote a book way back in 1926 called Men of Rubber: The Story of Business. Firestone, Henry Ford, and Thomas Edison were generally considered the three leaders in American industry at the time, and often worked and vacationed together. All three were part of a very exclusive group titled “The Millionaires’ Club.”

growth10

10. Rooting means different things in different parts of the world. here in my hometown of Melbourne , Australia rooting has an entirely different sexual meaning: Rooting for You.

growth11

11. I have a friend who would be considered a perfectionist, she doesn’t start at least half of her projects due to this, Its Growth not perfection that gets things done.

growth12

12. Stuck at the starting gates, they got nothing done: Pompeii.

growth13

13. Seeds need sun and wind and rain to become trees, so do we humans.

growth14

14. A Useful resource in this area is Wayne Dyer’s book Excuses Begone: Excuses Begone.

growth15

15. 300 metre trees were once but mere seeds, their growth is pure evidence of life.

These twelve areas are blueprints for the soul, the opportunity to feel different every day you wake up, to have a 1,000 litres of vitality versus 100 in your life by taking on growth each day.

Namaste until we meet again, my dear friends.

I wear my letters on my front!!

Just got back from a weekend retreat with my mentor Arion Light: The Activation School. We never know what new surprising empowerment will be served up. This weekend it was an initiation. So what does society define an initiation as, here’s the Google definition:

initiation
noun
  1. 1.
the action of admitting someone into a society or group, typically with a ritual.
    “rituals of initiation”
    synonyms: beginning, starting, commencement

  2. 2.
    the action of beginning something.
    “the initiation of legal proceedings”
    synonyms: introduceadmitletinductinstallinstateincorporateordaininvestenlistenrolrecruit, sign up, swear in;

    convert

I think ordain is the closest to what I felt on the weekend because it felt like being introduced to a whole new cut at life. So how has society commented on the  noble art of initiation over the years, let’s have a look:

    int6

    6. That’s why I and the participants are in the Activators program, the love of learning how to live a better life: Good Life.

    9. Within first, then the without joins in happily.

    int11

    10. I wonder what I and you have written on your internal sticky notes: Song for the Inner Child.

    int12

    11. We weren’t learning how to initiate this, ours was about love.

    int13

    12. This was part of my initiation, I spent a lot of time having the thought, WTF is going on: Full of Shit.

    14. You can’t know it all, yes, he and I are talking to you: In case you didn’t know everything.

    int16

    15. Finally from one of the greatest philosophers to walk the planet, something that must be included in any effective initiation: Gratitude or celebration as we practice it in the Activators Program.

We were asked to make a final statement at the end of the weekend, mine were rapturous contentment

It changes the entire Conversation!!

I’m an one on one English tutor at Darebin Intercultural Centre in Preston, Victoria, Australia. My student didn’t turn up this morning and I had printed her a lesson called Making Contact. I put this in Google Images and it brought up hundred of quotes on making eye contact, transfiguration  by another name.

My friend Chris runs these amazing transfiguration events where you share eye contact with 20 different people over the evening and you finish with a I Love you Circle. This was not what I expected when I typed the words in so let’s have a look at some of these quotes and how they can be interpreted:
