When Language Ends, What Then?

I had been ruminating on what to write my blog about this week, but after spending a particularly creative day at my friend Emeli’s business Collective Potential the thought ballon went off so here they are , 15 perspectives on creativity, some quite famous , others virtually unknown.

The great inventors, artists and musicians were often considered flakey in their own time and most definitely did not fit in and many died penniless as their recognition came years later. What do we say about this area, creativity , that has changed our planet time and time again over the ages.

creativity1

1. Henry Matisse painted beautiful flowers, he also penned one of the greatest quotes about creativity, simply three words, Creativity takes Courage. When we get to our fear factor that is where creativity kicks in, in that area we have not been before, the Unknown.

Creativity2

2. Remember as a child when you trashed your mum’s kitchen making your first cake, flour and cake mix and dirty bowls everywhere. One of our first major acts of creativity and it definitely was not tidy. Guess what, creativity rarely is.

creativity3

3. Sylvia Plath’s poems were often considered on the dark side, but they always seemed to strike a cord with the reader. On creativity she pointed to the danger of trying to be creative when you were visiting the realm of self doubt. Do something to get out of this state before journeying down its path.

creativity4

4. Some say Love is the drug, creative types know that the boredom of a life without creativity is the drug that feeds their adrenaline glands.

creativity5

5. Four years old, playing knights and dragons with our imaginary friendly dragon, other kids come along and join in the game until everybody in the playground is taking part. Creativity, pass it on.

creativity6

6. Author of the 9 Intense Experiences, Brian Vaszily points to the fact that creativity is actually showing other people their blind spots, something new and exciting that they can add to their daily life.

Creativity8

7. The M word, Edison made a million of these before he came across the right formulae for the light globe. Yes on your creative path you are going to make many mistakes. In fact if you are not you are not being creative.

Creativity7

8. Einstein, motley hair, eccentric as hell. But he always had that cheeky grin that one wears when you are being totally creative, much fun.

creativity9

9. Let it go , Let it Out , Let it all Unravel. Let it free and It will be a path on which to travel. Michael Leunig’s beautiful ode to letting go, this is the world of creativity, go there.

Creativity10

10. Do we call them goals those things we attain to and that are not in existence yet, but in the world to be. I use Danielle LaPorte’s Core Desired Feelings from the Desire Map technology to relate to this area of my life. Mine are Peace, Bliss, Love, H.O.P.E. – Helping other people evolve and Abundance. Living out of these is much more fulfilling than any To Do list.

creativity11

11. My friend Jules is wild and juvenile and one of the most creative people I know. His imagination is unfettered. He is often accused of not growing up. I think he should be given an Order of Australia for his contribution to the creativity of the planet.

Creativity12

12. Our minds often get blocked up with the grunge of our everyday lives, there are methods such as meditation, Yoga and my favourite Tai Chi to help clear them and allow some space for creativity to replace it.

Creativity13

13. Oh those times in our lives when it felt like everything was floating around torn asunder, not connected at all. A perfect opportunity to use your creative juices to restore some sense to it all.

creativity14

14. We all have the same number of hours in the day as luminaries like Martin Luther King Jr., Gandhi, Beethoven, Sir Richard Branson and my friend Emeli Paolo of Collective Potential. The difference in what they achieved and are going to achieve, go Emeli is that they knew and know that you cannot change the world by being like it, you have to do something radically different.

Creativity15

15. Fonzie in the classic 60’s TV show Happy Days couldn’t say the word sorry. In the world of Creativity you had better be able to be with being wrong, because you will be many times, that’s why it’s called creativity after all.

Can they see Angels?

We often see our children talking to their imaginary friends or staring into space like they can see something that is invisible to the rest of us. What is it that is taken from us as we age that seems to bring so much joy to the innocence and joy of child’s play.

Over the centuries people have pondered this question and written great tomes about it, her are 15 of the more popular ones that may help explain the mystery.

Childsplay1

1. As the newest arrivals on our planet babies are checking out all aspects that are available. They have to learn what is real or not, you cannot tell them this because they do not have language yet to understand what you are saying to them. What is it they see that holds them in such rapture for hours on end.

Childsplay2

2. The imagination that children develop is like that of a great painter creating an exquisite image on a blank canvas, so many wondrous unexplainable things that they form into their daily child’s play.

childsplay3

3. Plato is considered one of the great thinkers of the ancient world, but he had something to say on the power of living life as play, learn from the children.

Childsplay4

4. We need to work to make a living, but what if our work felt like play, joyful and exciting each day. Make play each day your priority.

Chilsplay5

5. Remember when you were young, a line from a very kitschy 70 or 80’s pop song. We have the opportunity to do this moment to moment, but how many of us take it to return to the totalled expressed joy of childhood?

Childsplay6

6. Do you remember the first time you were dropped off at kindergarten? Lots of your fellow conspirators of play had to be dragged kicking screaming and crying into that monolithic building. They all knew the serious work was the play not the formal learning.

Childsplay7

7. I remember trashing my mothers kitchen several times with cooking utensils and flour. I could never work out why I never got into trouble, I think Love is the word that explains it best.

Childsplay8

8. Even famous people like Martin Luther King junior valued time with his children in the heady days of transforming the civil rights of people. Here he is laying back with his children partaking in some Child’s play.

Childsplay9

9. The innocence of a child, especially a newborn baby sometimes bring tears to my eyes. it is this vulnerability that we spend so much money and time on trying to attain again as we have learnt to become more cynical as we age.

Childsplay10

10. Carl Orrf was one of the most influential composers of the last century, his Carmen Baruna is sublime. But as important as his music was to him he equally believed in educating children in play. here is what he had to say on the subject.

Childsplay12

11. Joy, freedom, contentment, inner and outer rest, peace with the world: these are a few of a child’s favourite things as they are participating in that heavenly state known as Child’s play.

Childsplay13

12. Past , Present and Future, babies and young children have one of these distinctions. Now, Now, Now. Eckhart Tolle has made a fortune getting us back to this point. We once had it so it is obtainable again.

Childsplay11

13. Sporting parents, we all have horror stories from growing up watching fellow children being forced to fulfil their parents lost dreams. Its great to know that there are sporting icons who don’t believe in this barbaric practice that has scarred many a child.

Childsplay14

14. One of Rumi’s great parables, that retaining your joy of playing with children is what gives you great insight into the world.

Childsplay14

15 Just one final reminder from our babies and children on how to enjoy life to the full, be in the present, don’t worry about what has gone in the past and we can’t be certain of our future, be in the NOW.

Another 15 beautiful insights into what is possible from that wondrous period of our life known as Child’s Play. Hopefully this will help you return there, even if just for a moment.

So Namaste to you my dear friends, until next time

Birthday Cards are Keepers.

I wouldn’t like to be the proprietor of a birthday card business these days, I received one versus 108 Facebook birthday wishes. I remember back in the day when I use to hang them on string because I got so many.

What makes a good birthday wish. I read the person’s Facebook page to find something I can acknowledge them for and attach a photo, It takes about as long as it would to write a card. The majority of people just say happy birthday, signs of the lack of importance or time given to fulfilling their requirement.

I suppose the ease of doing a Facebook post means you get more blessings than in the past but how many of them do you remember a month later.

I looked up some of the quotes that used to be in Birthday Cards and thought I would comment on what they were trying to pass on to the person having a Birthday.

Birthday1

1. You can see many silly and virtually unreadable cards about getting old, This beautiful quote gives some respect to the journey that growing old is.

Birthday2

2. Sunshine, Rainbows and Rainfall would make for an interested special day, had to throw in a jibe about age at the end though, a shame really.

Birthday3

3. Birthdays are an opportunity for true friends to say to each other what it is that they love about each other that cements the friendship.

Birthday4

4. I really like this one because it is unrestricted acknowledgemnt of the person receiving the birthday card.

Birhtday5

5. Was does Birthday stand for? This is a pretty damn great list of what it can, Acknowledgement City.

Birthday6

6. Do we believe and support our friends. This beautiful quote and the butterfly imagery create a strong message for the birthday person to recieve.

Birthday7

7. Nature is an important part in our lives as we grow up, what if nature celebrated you birthday as well, it would be pretty special.

Birthday8

8. They have jumping castles and clowns and DJ’s at 1st birthdays now, Who is that all really for, this beautiful message would mean more in my humble opinion.

Birthday9

9. A little confronting this statement from Abe Lincoln, but a timely reminder some people are old at 20 while others are young at 90. What would you think if you received a card with this in it.

Birthday10

10. The birthday card we all never receive. Just a reminder we will all get it one day.

Birthday11

11. What happened to aging gracefully, billions spent on anti ageing products, then there is the ultimate thing to do, lie about your age.

Birthday12

12. There is so much evidence today that the quality of your life is dependant on the amount that you give back to others, The generous wish in this quote to receive it back a thousandfold is beautiful.

Birthday13

13. Seven guidelines to live a life by so that when your birthday comes around each year it is a real celebration of the soul.

Birthday14

14. Being in the present, The Power of Now , you will never have this moment again, celebrate it for all it is worth.

Birthday15

15. Look at the stars on the night of your birthday to remember that those things that happen to you on a daily basis are quite insignificant in the highway of the universe.

Another 15 done and dusted, Namaste to you all my friends but a special mention to my friend who personifies Namaste to me, its Paul Monteith’s 66th birthday today , have a good one my friend.

Why I write a daily Love Meme.

Being enrolled in two courses at the same time sometimes leads to confusion  as to which one I am referencing. The two courses are Creative Mastery two, a six-week coaching held by Arion Light and Sacred Union for Singles, a seven month online course facilitated by the Moon Woman Tanishka Tantrika.

The subjects I wish to discuss in this blog are Love and Abundance and how the two combine. Definitions first –

Love is a variety of different feelings, states, and attitudes that ranges from interpersonal affection (“I love my mother”) to pleasure (“I loved that meal”). It can refer to an emotion of a strong attraction and personal attachment.[1] It can also be a virtue representing human kindness, compassion, and affection—”the unselfish loyal and benevolent concern for the good of another”.[2] It may also describe compassionate and affectionate actions towards other humans, one’s self or animals.[3]

Ancient Greeks identified four forms of love: kinship or familiarity (in Greek, storge), friendship (philia), sexual and/or romantic desire (eros), and self-emptying or divine love (agape).[4][5] Modern authors have distinguished further varieties of romantic love.[6] Non-Western traditions have also distinguished variants or symbioses of these states.[7] This diversity of uses and meanings combined with the complexity of the feelings involved makes love unusually difficult to consistently define, compared to other emotional states.

Love in its various forms acts as a major facilitator of interpersonal relationships and, owing to its central psychological importance, is one of the most common themes in the creative arts.[8]

Love may be understood as a function to keep human beings together against menaces and to facilitate the continuation of the species.[9

abundance (əˈbʌndəns)

n

1. a copious supply; great amount

2. fullness or benevolence: from the abundance of my heart.

3. degree of plentifulness

4. (Chemistry) chem the extent to which an element or ion occurs in the earth’s crust or some other specified environment: often expressed in parts per million or as a percentage

5. (General Physics) physics the ratio of the number of atoms of a specific isotope in a mixture of isotopes of an element to the total number of atoms present: often expressed as a percentage: the abundance of neon-22 in natural neon is 8.82 per cent.

6. (Card Games) Also called: abondance a call in solo whist undertaking to make nine tricks

7. affluence

[C14: via Old French from Latin abundantia, from abundāre to abound]

So as we can see there are many different meaning for both words, but what do we as the human race have to say about an abundance of Love. Here are some examples

1.

abundance

It seems to me that the people who have been most turned on and passionately loving their lives are those people who have discovered what they love and have made that their career.

2.

abundance2

All through school I was taught reading, writing and arithmetic. Not much of this proved very useful in discovering in what it was that made my heart shudder. It was a 30 year journey after being cloned by the school system that finally got me to discover the joy of  writing as my self-expression.

3.

abundance3

Do we allow ourselves to be vulnerable enough to open our hearts to the whole world nd allow everybody and everything to be our teacher, I find this difficult at times when I let my head and judgements rule me.

4.

abundance4

Self Love is something that is not pushed in popular media, the news is full of war and hate. What if we focused on the dignity of the human  spirit and the power of Love, different world.

5.

abundance5

We all at some time in our lives have had one of these, our bestie, people we do not need to say many words and there seems to be no separation from. The relationship is much more than physical.

6.

abundance6

Spring is such a beautiful time, the scent of flowers permeate the air. Yet these fine examples of the earth loving itself are available all year round in poems, photos, our memories of times that they have bloomed.

7.

abundance7

Great Love equals a great abundant Life, go live it.

8.

abundance9

This beautiful image reminds me of the love where no words are needed, that which we seek for all of our lives.

9.

abundance8

A woman who created an abundant life by creating the belief of self-love and then went about fulfilling it, a shining example of self-love and abundance.

10.

abundance10

Love allows us to live in harmony with each other and the planet. People like Janet Goodall and David Suzuki who love our planet do so from a place of deep love for all creatures great and small.

11.

abundance11

We create the distinction of home, our calling, our journey with our words, they are not physical things, but things of Love, this is one of the great gifts we have.

12.

abundance12

Emenate Love and you will become a beacon for those who need the present of a little bit or a lot of love in their lives, become an Anchor of Love.

13.

abundance13

I don’t know if this is true but I believe one of my sisters said to me in the middle of one of my Mental Health crisises that It didn’t matter what I did, she would love me forever, my journey to being well transformed that day.

14.

abundance14

That’s what so great about these two distinctions, lived purely they have no costs to them, only benefits. We need to stop putting a caveat on them.

15.

abundance15

Finally, its time we started loving our abundant planet and not seeking a return from it with each economic transaction we make with it. Abundant Love is the way to freedom.

So these are my chosen 15 quotes that express the abundance of love to me, not sure if it explains why I write a daily love meme on Facebook, till next time my friends Namaste. If you wish to read them her is the link to my Facebook page, as a warrior of Love I will Like you and Include you in my world wide tribe Rod Williams

Are we fragile to the Core?

After doing six workshops in a day recently I felt a little bit fragile, Feeling this way it made me wonder what did fragility mean and how did it shape our society, This is Wikipedia’s cut at it.

fragility

noun
the quality of being easily broken or damaged.
“osteoporosis is characterized by bone fragility”

synonyms: frailty, flimsiness, weakness, delicacy, daintiness, fineness, brittleness;

antonyms: robustness

the quality of being delicate or vulnerable.
“a film about the fragility of relationships”

This made me think about the times I have been really fragile in my life, especially my mental health episodes , all five of them. These periods are the extreme places fragility can take me so I looked to see what people had to say about it:

1. Fragility1

This image is a great depiction of the times I have been taken over by my fragility, it was like having all the air crushed out of a ballon.

3.Fragility3

Life is a delicate mix between the fragility of new growth to the eternalness of the night sky, both are extraordinary in their magnificence.

7. Fragilty7

Love and its fragility is universal to the world and is written of in all languages, this is one of them, it translates with the same power as your native tongue.

8.Fragility8

Crystals have been a powerful tool across the centuries, their fragility is hard to explain the journey that have been through to create their well known healing powers.

9. Fragility9

Do we need to be sorry when we are feeing a wee bit fragile in our emotions. We would hope that we have understanding friends, family and partners who assist us through these times.

Do we need to take a trip to the moon to learn the lesson that our planet is built on a fragile ecosystem and that mans responsibility is to care for it.

The Year of Love

I’m not a great one for New Years Resolutions since I took up Danielle LaPorts Cored Desired Feelings and having intentions. But I came across the practice of Naming your year from a friend who inspires me lately. She chose the Year of Being, I chose the Year of Love for 2015.

It doesn’t necessarily mean that I will fall deeply in Love with the One but that would be nice but more that each and every moment is appreciated from the heart space of Love. So I researched what we as a society have to say about Love, Here are my favourite 20 quotes and sayings on Love.

Life1

The majority of Quotes on Love are romantic in nature but I have collected romantic and inspiring love quotes over the years, Here we go.

1. In dreams and Love there are no impossibilities.

To get to know somebody at the deepest level ask them what their dreams are and support them in fulfilling them, they will love you with the intensity that it will take to assist them in reaching their life’s pinnacle.

2. Hatred paralyses Life, love releases it . Hatred confuses Life, Love harmonies it, Hatred darkens life, Love illuminates it.

What did the man who said this Martin Luther King have to give up in the area of hatred to inspire a national Civil Rights movement in  the sixties. If you listen n to his speeches they are all from love of his fellow human being, be they white or black.

3. Love is a canvas furnished by Nature, and embroidered by imagination.

Gaia gave up beauty all around to inspire the love of this extraordinary planet, allowing us to have Aww moments at every moment in the day, We have only to stop and smell the Roses.

4. We are all Born for Love. It is the principle of existence, and its only end.

People have been offering Inspiring quotes about love for centuries and Benjamin Disreali ( Earl of Beaconsfield ) offered this profound take at it back in the day. I love it for the way it states that it is the backbone of our very existence.

5. Love in its essence is spiritual fire.

I have been on the spiritual path for many a year and this sums up what as I see the message of this way of Life, Simply Love.

Love4

6. Doubt that the stars are fire, Doubt that the sun doth move: Doubt that the truth is a liar, but never doubt I Love.

The bard William Shakespeare had a way with words, here he writes in regard to the power of, and the power to love.

7. I don’t want the heavens or the shooting stars, I don’t wan’t gemstones or gold. I have those things already. I want ….. a kind soul. I want to fall asleep and wake, knowing my heart is safe. I want to love and be loved.

Wealth, possessions cannot give you what true love does. The kindness of a friendly soul and the joy of love and being loved back, thats what provided it.

8. There are only four questions of value in life What is Sacred?, of what is the spirit made? What is worth living for and what is worth dying for? The answer to each is always the same: only love.

Don Juan De Marco said this, not known as a spiritual man but a supremo in the area of Love. Who do you live for and who would you die for?

9. I Love you because the entire Universe conspired to help me find you.

Haven’t we met our loved ones in unusual places, Like someone or something was conspiring to have it happen. Paulo Coelho’s quote sums it up nicely, remember we are all Starseed’s just waiting to find the right bit for us.

10. The heart has its reasons of which reason know nothing.

Love is a quality that overrules all logical thought, It has a fluidity all of its own. You may never know what draws you to certain people but are just glad that it did.

Love5

11. Who being loves, Is Poor

Bad boy Oscar Wilde penned this short vignette, not known for his holding back Oscar seems to be pointing to the only thing that truly satisfies the heart, being in Love with whom and whatever that inspires you.

12. Love is a fabric which never fades , no matter how often it is washed in the water of adversity and grief.

We will have things that happen in our lives that will test the power of our love, Deaths, unexpected breakups , financial disasters but underneath it Love will remain, beating away through the power of our heart.

13. Love is Life, and if you miss Love, You Miss Life.

This quote by Leo Buscaglia hits home for me. Last year I fell out of love with myself and  spent three months fighting depression, only when I got back in touch with the love others had for me did I return to the sef love that got me out of it.

14. Love has nothing to do with what you are expecting to get – only what you are expecting to give – which is everything.

When Love is reliant on What an I going to get out of this , you fail. It is what you are willing to give to a situation, without expectation where the beauty of love resided.

15. Falling in Love is like leaping off a really tall building. Your brain tells you it is not a good idea, but your heart tells you, you can fly.

I listen to my head far too often in these situations, time to leap of some tall building and let my heart run things for a while.

16. Can miles truly separate you from friends… If you want to be with someone you love , aren’t you already there.

They say you can sense that those you love are thinking about you or are in trouble. These people are the people who, no matter how long you have been apart it feels like one minute.

17. Now join your hands, and with your hands, your heart.

The bard again. Would make a great wedding vow, joining our hearts is the ultimate act of love.

18. Love is like the wind, you can’t see it, but you can feel it.

When Love comes to town, it feels like a mighty, mighty wind straight to your heart. Can be stormy weather but as the power of nature inspires us, so does love.

19. Meeting you was fate, becoming your friend was a choice, but falling in love with you was beyond my control.

This three step process simplifies that crazy little thing called Love. We hope we only need to take the final step one or two times in our life, but that is not becoming the norm these days.

20. Love and Respect for All, Everyone Included

This is my quote. it came to me when I was sitting at my desk at work. I saw the possibility of everyone returning to the possibility of Love. I spend my time having it happen on the planet.

This is what is behind me choosing the Year of Love for 2015, I would love you all to get on board. Namaste to next time my friends.

May the Animals be Blessed.

puppies Today I remember the animals of the world, our cohabitants of this precious planet. I recognise their vulnerability, as well as the harm we sometimes do to them. May careless, even cruel behaviour towards animals be forever removed from the earth. May my heart be open to ways I can be of service to them. May the relationship between humans and animals be lifted to its highest place. Dear Gaia, Please bless the animals. Protect Them From the actions of those with cold hearts. May we be proper stewards Of these precious creations in our midst. Amen. I love this prayer by Marianne Williamson to the other inhabitants of our planet although I changed one word, I cannot bring myself to use the word God, it is far to damaged in my estimation to be used to represent the spirit that is mightier than the human race, I much prefer Gaia, the spirit of the planet that does not relate to any power seeking religion. I spent last weekend volunteering at World Vegan Day in Melbourne Australia, my friends call me the worlds greatest volunteer. I was highly impressed by the  number of young  people who have journeyed down the path to Veganism. What is Veganism, Wikipedia defines it as follows

  1. Veganism /ˈviːɡənɪzəm/ is the practice of abstaining from the use of animal products, particularly in diet, as well as following an associated philosophy that rejects the commodity status of sentient animals. A follower of veganism is known as a vegan.

I used a picture of Beagles to begin this blog as there is a group in Victoria that specifically operates to rescue them from abandonment or cruelty http://www.beaglerescuevic.org/aboutus.html, and they are damn cute.
There were many other organisations that defended the rights of animals around the world and I was drawn to the Tiger Protection booth and was amazed to find out that there are only 3,200 tigers in the wild, as articles say it is ironical it is the Chinese Year of the tiger when mankind is rapidly removing this noble creature from the planet. The link to this article does not hold out much hope for them in 12 years when the next Year of the Tiger rolls around. http://www.treehugger.com/natural-sciences/all-worlds-tigers-extinct-in-15-20-years-without-better-conservation-efforts.html.
I chose to become Vegan due to the fact I did not want the energy of a living creature in my body not due to animal cruelty but the talk I heard by Philip Wollen pointed to why we need to give up eating meat and fish, we are literally killing the planet for the sake of our daily steak. Philip is a philanthropist who used to be head of Citibank in Australia and who had a turn around in his life and now funds project worldwide to prevent animal  cruelty and extinction. He has the ability to speak to people who can make a difference in a huge way. here is a link to a blog with one of his speeches http://livelearnloveeat.com/2012/12/16/philip-wollen-animals-should-be-off-the-menu/. He also funds Kindness House in Victoria where he allows groups dedicated to animals such as Vegetarian Victoria space for minimal rent so they can do their work to defend our fellow creatures.

It takes 25 times as much energy to produce one kilogram of beef as it does a kilogram of vegetables. If the developing nations keep changing their dietary habits to be carnivores we will need two planets at least to produce the energy required, we don’t have two planets, we have a profoundly wounded one. The children born today will not have fish to eat in the year 2050 according to an influential report released by scientists in the U.K. recently, this is sad but not as sad as the effect this will have on the oceans as fish are the life blood of the oceans. A friend of mine who is a solo ocean crossing sailor said the things he noticed in two journeys ten years apart was the silence of the seas, no fish no birds, he was profoundly worried for the future of our oceans and was speaking from experience.
There are people worldwide who do not mistreat animals, heres a list of some of them http://list25.com/25-animal-saviors-who-will-restore-your-faith-in-humanity/  So are Vegans and vegetarians the saviours of the planet in the future, they are a growing number worldwide as the benefits of a meat free diets become apparent and it is recommended by more and more health professionals to battle the ever increasing battle with obesity and diabetes that has become an epidemic worldwide, here are some stats on vegetarians and vegans worldwide http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vegetarianism_by_country.

Who seeks Asylum?

asylum

I work at the Darebin Intercultural Centre in Preston where we have an Asylum Seeker Lounge which actually means I get to interact with actual Asylum Seekers.

Seeking international protection

The term asylum-seeker is often confused with the term refugee. An asylum-seeker is someone who says he or she is a refugee and seeks international protection from persecution or serious harm in their home country. Every refugee is initially an asylum-seeker, but not every asylum-seeker will ultimately be recognized as a refugee. While they are waiting for their claim to be accepted or rejected, they are called asylum-seekers. The term asylum-seeker contains no presumption either way – it simply describes the fact that someone has lodged the claim for asylum. National asylum systems are there to decide which asylum-seeker actually qualifies for international protection. Those judged through proper procedures not to be refugees, nor to be in need of any other form of international protection, can be sent back to their home countries.

I always ask people who agree with the policy that there are no such thing as asylum seekers who need to catch boats and not wait on the list that never decrease for organisations such as the UNCHR have they ever met an asylum seeker and listened to their stories. There is a great project in Melbourne Australia that tells these stories http://opencity.org.au/ – they cannot use there real names for fear of reprise to their families in their home countries and unfortunately in our country from over zealous government officials but I know several of the people in this projects and having read them it changed my ideas of what and why these people take the dramatic action of boarding a rickety boat that may end up at the bottom of an ocean.

Sara who I know has lost her family because of the repressive laws regarding women in her home country. Highly educated and a translator of books Sara decided to leave after the last books she translated was not allowed to be published because it broke Islamic Law. religion raising its head once again. Women do not have the right to seek leaving their country where Sara was from , so she flew out with the intention of not returning and seeking asylum in a country where women had rights and chose Australia. Sara spent 9 days on a boat after paying $5,000 to a boat smuggler and lost contact with the person who traveled with her from her home country. Because one has money does not mean you are an Asylum seeker, money is not the answer to living a meaningful life.

Mustafa was raped by the Taliban at the age of ten years old for a three month period and has been in Australia and on the same visa for the past five years. He has 8 dollars a fortnight  left over after paying his rent which he buys a packet of biscuits and a bottle of drink and recently had to leave his shared accommodation and has been going through the trauma of finding new accommodation on a severely low income.

I recently found a Pledge to Asylum Seekers written by L. Clancy and L. Mariah for Bendigo for Refugees, http://www.pledgetoasylumseekers.org/

Our Pledge to Asylum Seekers

YWC pledger_4 Welcome!

This site is for sharing the Pledge to Asylum Seekers, written by two Australian writers who wanted to create something that would generate empathy, humanity and hope.

We wrote the Pledge to bring some perspective to an issue that has become lost in politics. We hope that it will move people’s hearts, demonstrate the depth of compassion felt by both individuals and groups, and inspire further action.

The Pledge is as follows

To those who come from desperation and despair,

To those who have endured violence and unrest.

To those who have no place of safety,

Who come to our shores seeking sanctuary:

You are Welcome here.

We pledge to the mothers and to the fathers,

We pledge to the children and pregnant women,

We pledge to those tortured, broken and dispossessed,

We will acknowledge you with kindness and compassion:

You are Welcome here.

We pledge as part of the human family:

We pledge as members of a global community:

We pledge as people who have sought and found

A peace and safety such as you seek,

You are welcome here.

As the children and grandchildren of displaced persons,

We will not shirk our responsibilities.

We will Not stand by while your cjhildren are hidden offshore.

We will insist on change to the current system.

You are welcome here.

If you dream of your children living in safety,

Of sharing the hard works and the rewards:

If you long to contribute to a caring and just society

And subscribe to a ‘fair go for all’,

You are welcome here.

Bring respect fellowship and goodwill.

Bring your heart, your courage and your aspirations.

We are fair honest, open-minded and generous,

We greet you in friendship

And you are welcome here.
