Friendship, Cheap at half the Price


Is there a price for friendship? What is a true friend versus a fair-weather one, here are my and some other better known peoples thoughts on it.

I have experienced some heart shuddering moments of friendship through my journey with my mental health issues.People who would not give up on me when I had entered the dark zone of self hatred, for this I must thank my siblings and friends I have made over the years, some of who I thought fitted into the fair-weather arena.

The quote I use to explain friendship is as follows: You cannot judge the value of a friendship, the great ones are based in Love which is priceless at its core. Lets see what others have to say on the matter.

The Marquise de Sevigne, born in the sixteenth century, was famous for her letters and musing on friendship, In this well known quote she point to the fact that true friends are around when life is rocky as well as smooth sailing.

Martin Luther King is a modern icon of oratory yet in regard to friendship he does not talk about remembering words spoken, but those beautiful moments of silence that occur between friends where words are not necessary.

I recently met one of these old friends that Jim Henson is pointing to in this quote, we had met once before but there was nothing I wanted to hold back from her when I got a chance to have a long conversation with her.

Aristotle was more than a great philosopher and a bugger for the bottle he was a deeply spiritual man, he authored this quote that close friendships are like one soul in two bodies, beautiful.

How often have we formed friendships because that particular soon to be friend had the same quirky liking or hobby we had, C.S.Lewis the author penned this great ode to just those moments.

Ralph Waldo Emerson points to the time I did the worst white South African gumboot dancing in front of a crowd of 5,000 people with two of my oldest friends, you give each other permission to be silly when you know the ins and out of each other.

Albert Camus speaks to what is beautiful about great friendships, that they happen side by side, not trying to one up our friends or follow their beckon and call.

Eleanor Roosevelt, wife of the American president was often in trouble with the establishment for her outspoken views but this lovely quote speaks to a person with a beautiful caring heart.

Drop In and Live!!


So its time to hit the keypad again. I have decided to write about doing my friend Arion Lights Creative Mastery Course over the past six weeks. Before doing it I had done several one on one sessions with him as I had won one in a Silent Auction at Menergy, a mens retreat I attended late last year. I had spoken to David who had done the previous course and he said that it added to the power of the one on one sessions so I enrolled on the payment plan.

I went along looking forward to the first night and this poem by Arion probably explains where I was going in:

Dear creator…I wanted to say Sorry
I have got life a little bit mixed up
I thought you gave me a purpose I had to fulfil
And I have been trying so hard to do it
But I got tired and Lost, In all my effort

The six weeks was a journey in facing the beauty and the crap of life and letting go and accepting it all.

First week we look at Essence – the sacred place within us all that remembers the truth, beauty and wisdom of who we really are. This place is not readily obtainable when you are a head merchant like myself and the thoughts are going through at thousands a second. So I spent a lot of time coming home to the Breath and fighting my monkey mind.

Second week Arion added the distinction of Embodiment – a process that takes you through what are the patterns that a situation creates in your Breath, Movement, feelings, Thought, Sight and Word. I had definitely not done this in all the other courses and seminars I had tried to fix myself with over the Years. I will put the six quotes here so I don’t give away too much as it is a experiential thing and Arion has an online program coming up so it will be available world wide.

Movement

Our body structure shapes the foundation of our reality

Feeling

Beyond our ever-changing surface emotions is an ocean of raw creative energy that can be awoken and ridden like a wild dragon

Beyond the fragile immature thought of our human mind is a vast and limitless intelligence that can be the wise and directive force in our lives

What we see is not fixed but a wild tapestry of possibility woven by the focus of our perception

Beyond just describing reality our words are of the pure essence of creation, directing reality in each moment, inside and out

I did my first two on Joyous Belonging and I am enough as these are two issues I have constantly battled over my time on this planet.

Week three we looked at the Yin and Yang of Mother and Father and how to move from Action to get things done Essence to Essence expressing Action. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s quote on this sums it up pretty well

When I am….completely myself, entirely alone
then my ideas flow best and most abundantly
Whence and how these ideas come
I know not nor can I force them

Creating the essence of my visions through the six domains was fun sometimes and excruciating at other times. I did the ones I found easiest first and didn’t look at the one regarding my home for two weeks, no issue there, not.

By now you might be asking a question what does Arion Look like, so here he is.

By the time week four came around Life had been putting things in the way of completing the homework, yes you do have homework, its not that difficult, listening to some guided meditation and filling some sheets out, so I was looking forward to what we call Renewal. The distinction that Everything is a gift was freeing as with everyone else I have areas I do not like visiting. My deep down one is I am Revoltingly disgusting, a joyous space to hang out in.. I found in Visiting these areas it allowed me to be more in the world through simply accepting it and not fighting it. Doing this through the six domains took me places I had not been before in confronting this lock, an expression used in the course to name something that quells your freedom in areas in your life.

The focus of week five was Liberation, the possibility of living free from the confines of the Mind, Yay!! The deeper I am willing to do this work the more layers I will have courage to shed, the deeper the calling the more the practice will become sacred and the deeper the calling the simpler it will become. I by now knew with my core that when I am suffering it is because I have put the essence of whatever the situation is outside me, so this work is an ode to personal responsibility.

Celebration and sadness were in the air week six, we had a communal picnic on the lawn outside and then had a completion exercise inside where we held the course, its very cosy. Back to Arion for some words on what I got out of this course,

Blissipline


Its funny what you find when you do a major cleanup of your apartment, I found these two rather interesting pieces of paper that I had written two lists on, One was entitled Blissipline , so thanks to Joseph Campbell for the title of this blog, its not even a word in the dictionary but I like it a lot.

I wrote Being in the state of flow at the top of the page, Thinking about this I sense this is what we are all seeking in our lives and have to work on the things that prevent us from living in this blissful place all of the time, I’m getting there.

Next was Happiness in the Present, this related to we spend a lot of time remembering the good old times and looking forward to future events but the only moment that true happiness can exist is right now so its up to us to choose that moment to moment.

I do this via the Desire Map Planner by the brilliant Danielle LaPorte, her Desire Map process is one of the most transformational things I have come across to transform your to do lists. 2. Awesomeness Report

I blind people with my Awesomeness, something to work on daily, owning our own greatness in the face of that voice in our head that maybe saying something else. A Powerful tool.

If you don’t have employees at the moment but are working towards it change this to Pay yourself 10% of your money before paying anyone else. The change is extraordinary in your relationships when everybody is on side.

4. Sweet Sugar Love Machine

Flourish on Praise, Praise each other. If you do this well you do not even to know the person to praise them as it becomes a skill and raises your empathatic ability.

5 hours a week out of 50 doing work and stuff should be put aside to learn new things, the world does not stop changing and you need to keep up.

You learn by teaching, all those new things that you are learning start giving classes on it to your friends or at a neighbourhood house, who knows where it will lead, the world is your oyster. Remember the greats all started small.

Guided Visualisation, Have a vision for what you want in your life and spend some time imagining it in the quiet of stilling the mind.

If you are a company of one go dancing, camping, ten pin bowling, trampolining. If not down tools and take all employees at least once a month on a fun adventure, You and they will return the love in spades.

Look past the wrong, look to the future. Create a Vision board, put the jungle retreat in the Amazon on there. Its a reminder of your dreams.

You’re happy when you help others to be happy. As I mentioned above we choose to be happy or not, not always easy but if you are doing it with others the journey is much easier.

What is Love to you?


I haven’t written a blog since January 1st, a classic case of writers block in this arena, Instead I have been writing daily koans about love on my Facebook page, todays is Love Evolves minute to minute, It is expansive. I have sat in front of the computer several times and attempted to write one but have become free to do it after attending my Friend Arion Lights Creative Mastery course. I learnt to accept my dark spaces and it seems to have shifted a lot.

One of my friends Tania PM’d me the following after she had sent an earlier message thanking me for my posts – Ahhh.. that is wonderful Rod! I see… you are very good with words and uplifting… Choosing to be in the Year of Love.. I like that ! Could you perhaps elaborate on that and share it with us? I am sure many of your friends would like to know what that means, and how it translates into your life.

Last Year I was in the year of the horse and I turned 60, so I thought I would choose an area to empower me in 2015, so I choose the Year of Love. My life purpose is to have the paradigm of Love and Respect for All, Everyone included be the world wide conversation. Just a little thing to take on so I have set a goal of having 10,000 members of my Facebook group Interculturalism within 2 years, this will challenge me sufficiently and is measurable.

I was trying to look up Wikipedia’s version of Love but it doesn’t want to play. So here are some of the koans I have written and what they mean to me in the area of Love.

1. Love Inspires us when we are in touch with our soul.

I believe that Love is underlying all things and that the entry point is from our heart to our eternal soul. The mind has far too much dross attached to the subject to empower us.

2. Love is different every day. It becomes the past, but we live it in the now.

How often does the opportunity to express our love for someone or something show up in our life. I would say daily, do we charge towards these opportunities, It takes an act of bravery for it to be the natural thing to do.

3. Love can be gentle or fierce, All is Magnificent

We all have had days wondering why the bleep did we choose this person to love and days that it is so heart warningly beautiful it oozes out of our pores. Whatever type it is it is the exact type we need at that moment.

4. Decide to be one of those people who share it – Love

When the human race was created the purpose was to be in communities that interacted with each other, I believe this was to be from the space of Love.

5. Acts of Love are beautiful, small or large, It doesn’t matter which

What do you choose when interacting with people, do you follow your judgement of do I like them or not or do you act from Love, asking the question What would love do?

6. Love rewards the Brave, meet it with courage

I know that I often listen to my head as to why I should not express my love for someone, the cost is a moment of glorious ecstasy.

7. Make Peace with All, that is the way of Love

There is always the opportunity to defuse situations by coming from Love, If love is present anger disipates.

8. Make love to your heart, It loves you totally

When we practice the Art of Love, our best friend is our Heart, It is totally on our side

9. Love what you do and the World will Love you back

How do you find love in your life, find what you are passionate about, the world will mysteriously transform into one of wonder.

10. Here’s a new paradigm, take time for love every day

In this ever quickening fast paced world, we often bitch and complain that we don’t have time to do things. Make certain one of your daily practices is to Love.

So Tania, how does it translate in my life? Since taking this on I have visited the dark spaces of my unlovability and worked on accepting it, allowing for miraculous moments of blissful Love to occur.

Also I noticed people have still been reading my blogs even though I have not written one for a very very long time, I thank you for having faith in me.

The Year of Love


I’m not a great one for New Years Resolutions since I took up Danielle LaPorts Cored Desired Feelings and having intentions. But I came across the practice of Naming your year from a friend who inspires me lately. She chose the Year of Being, I chose the Year of Love for 2015.

It doesn’t necessarily mean that I will fall deeply in Love with the One but that would be nice but more that each and every moment is appreciated from the heart space of Love. So I researched what we as a society have to say about Love, Here are my favourite 20 quotes and sayings on Love.

The majority of Quotes on Love are romantic in nature but I have collected romantic and inspiring love quotes over the years, Here we go.

1. In dreams and Love there are no impossibilities.

To get to know somebody at the deepest level ask them what their dreams are and support them in fulfilling them, they will love you with the intensity that it will take to assist them in reaching their life’s pinnacle.

2. Hatred paralyses Life, love releases it . Hatred confuses Life, Love harmonies it, Hatred darkens life, Love illuminates it.

What did the man who said this Martin Luther King have to give up in the area of hatred to inspire a national Civil Rights movement in  the sixties. If you listen n to his speeches they are all from love of his fellow human being, be they white or black.

3. Love is a canvas furnished by Nature, and embroidered by imagination.

Gaia gave up beauty all around to inspire the love of this extraordinary planet, allowing us to have Aww moments at every moment in the day, We have only to stop and smell the Roses.

4. We are all Born for Love. It is the principle of existence, and its only end.

People have been offering Inspiring quotes about love for centuries and Benjamin Disreali ( Earl of Beaconsfield ) offered this profound take at it back in the day. I love it for the way it states that it is the backbone of our very existence.

5. Love in its essence is spiritual fire.

I have been on the spiritual path for many a year and this sums up what as I see the message of this way of Life, Simply Love.

The bard William Shakespeare had a way with words, here he writes in regard to the power of, and the power to love.

7. I don’t want the heavens or the shooting stars, I don’t wan’t gemstones or gold. I have those things already. I want ….. a kind soul. I want to fall asleep and wake, knowing my heart is safe. I want to love and be loved.

Wealth, possessions cannot give you what true love does. The kindness of a friendly soul and the joy of love and being loved back, thats what provided it.

8. There are only four questions of value in life What is Sacred?, of what is the spirit made? What is worth living for and what is worth dying for? The answer to each is always the same: only love.

Don Juan De Marco said this, not known as a spiritual man but a supremo in the area of Love. Who do you live for and who would you die for?

9. I Love you because the entire Universe conspired to help me find you.

Haven’t we met our loved ones in unusual places, Like someone or something was conspiring to have it happen. Paulo Coelho’s quote sums it up nicely, remember we are all Starseed’s just waiting to find the right bit for us.

10. The heart has its reasons of which reason know nothing.

Love is a quality that overrules all logical thought, It has a fluidity all of its own. You may never know what draws you to certain people but are just glad that it did.

Bad boy Oscar Wilde penned this short vignette, not known for his holding back Oscar seems to be pointing to the only thing that truly satisfies the heart, being in Love with whom and whatever that inspires you.

12. Love is a fabric which never fades , no matter how often it is washed in the water of adversity and grief.

We will have things that happen in our lives that will test the power of our love, Deaths, unexpected breakups , financial disasters but underneath it Love will remain, beating away through the power of our heart.

This quote by Leo Buscaglia hits home for me. Last year I fell out of love with myself and  spent three months fighting depression, only when I got back in touch with the love others had for me did I return to the sef love that got me out of it.

14. Love has nothing to do with what you are expecting to get – only what you are expecting to give – which is everything. 

When Love is reliant on What an I going to get out of this , you fail. It is what you are willing to give to a situation, without expectation where the beauty of love resided.

15. Falling in Love is like leaping off a really tall building. Your brain tells you it is not a good idea, but your heart tells you, you can fly.

I listen to my head far too often in these situations, time to leap of some tall building and let my heart run things for a while.

They say you can sense that those you love are thinking about you or are in trouble. These people are the people who, no matter how long you have been apart it feels like one minute.

The bard again. Would make a great wedding vow, joining our hearts is the ultimate act of love.

18. Love is like the wind, you can’t see it, but you can feel it.

When Love comes to town, it feels like a mighty, mighty wind straight to your heart. Can be stormy weather but as the power of nature inspires us, so does love.

19. Meeting you was fate, becoming your friend was a choice, but falling in love with you was beyond my control.

This three step process simplifies that crazy little thing called Love. We hope we only need to take the final step one or two times in our life, but that is not becoming the norm these days.

20. Love and Respect for All, Everyone Included

This is my quote. it came to me when I was sitting at my desk at work. I saw the possibility of everyone returning to the possibility of Love. I spend my time having it happen on the planet.

Your contribution is a gift to the Community

The news that has been being reported in  my country is tragic at the moment, multiple deaths that are unexpalinable to anyone with a humane heart. it has made me think how does the community recover from such events when they become permeated in  our history, Soon after the event an unknown person placed a bunch of flowers in Martin Place as a sign of the deep  loss they felt for the people involved, they probably did not know them but they wanted to say i feel for you in some way.bikemartin

In an amazing outpouring of compassion, thousands upon thousands of people have followed suit and it has simply become to be known as the martin Place Flowers Shrine.

This has brought me to think what options are available to you to mend a broken heart when something unimaginable happens that renders it asunder.

1. Seek professional help.

What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us. Ralph Waldo Emerson’s quote sums up succintly the power of what we are thinking about something has over us. When your thoughts start getting dark and are making it difficult to face the day its time to talk to someone who has been trained in releasing the grip those thoughts have on you.

2. Write about It.

They say it is better in than out and if you find it difficult to talk to someone about it then the option of writing how you feel gets it out of your head and on the page. As they say you can’t start the next chapter if you keep on reading the last in your head.

3. Physical Touch.

I find this one difficult when in the depths of thinking life is not great but in following this koan: Physical touch makes you healthier. Hugs, Massages and holding hands reduces stress  while boosting your immune system I have allowed my friends and family to help get me back on the path to wellness.

4. Do what makes you Happy.

Be it spending times with friends and family, physical exercise, watching a film that cheers you up, making something, just do a little bit a day if that is all you can do now, and build it up gradually as this will improve your general demeanour.

5. Meditation.

Your vision will become clear only when you can look in your own heart, who looks outside dreams, who looks inside awakes. Carl Jung expresses very well what the benefits of a daily meditation practice are, meditation is just not for relaxation, its primary purpose is to respond skilfully and gracefully to life’s difficulties as well as  its joy. There are many forms of meditation available, from calm abiding to chakra focus. Try one on until you find the type that suits you.

6. Spirituality.

Nothing goes away until it has taught us what we need to know – Pema Chodron, A Buddhist nun and profound thought leader of our generation covers it pretty well, if we think we know the answer there is no opportunity to advance by learning the lesson our circumstances are trying to teach us. Spending a few hours a week reading your favourite spiritual teacher can only enhance your understanding of the world.

7. Shake, Rattle and Roll.

Walking is the worlds oldest exercise and today modern  medicine. In the days of driving to work and back home again simple exercise like an half an hour walk can transform your life. I started with this and have built up to cycling every where and three sessions in the gym a week.

8. Dancing.

Dancing with the feet is one thing, Dancing with the heart is Another. We all have our favourite music that touches our heart. Put some on and dance to it. As children this was one of our main pastimes, we have just forgotten the enjoyment we get out of it.

Why had I never heard of her?

My friend Laura said to me at the end of May the world is a sadder place, Maya has passed. As the only Maya I knew was our mutual friend who was in her thirties I was much  saddened. little did I know that Laura was talking about one of the giants in the field of words that made a difference worldwide Maya Angelou. I am ashamed I did not know of her, reading some of her quotes I actually did but not that she had penned them.

Maya Angelou born Marguerite Annie Johnson; April 4, 1928 – May 28, 2014) was an American author, poet, dancer, actress and singer. She published seven autobiographies, three books of essays, and several books of poetry, and was credited with a list of plays, movies, and television shows spanning over 50 years. She received dozens of awards and more than 50 honorary degrees. Angelou is best known for her series of seven autobiographies, which focus on her childhood and early adult experiences. The first, I know why the Caged Bird Sings (1969), tells of her life up to the age of 17 and brought her international recognition and acclaim.

She became a poet and writer after a series of occupations as a young adult, including fry cook, prostitute, nightclub dancer and performer, cast member of the opera Porgy and Bess, coordinator for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, and journalist in Egypt and Ghana during the decolonisation of Africa. She was an actor, writer, director, and producer of plays, movies, and public television programs. In 1982, she earned the first lifetime Reynolds Professorship of American Studies at Wake Forest University. She was active in the Civil Rights Movement, and worked with Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X. It was probably with a pen like this Maya wrote some of her inspiring quotes, here are my favourite fifteen and what they mean to me

1. I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.

As we are not listening most of the time to remember the words someone spoke its how people touch our hearts that gets in, isn’t it the people who make our hearts flutter that we look forward to seeing again and again.

2. Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud.

When you see somebody who is suffering an attack of the blues, don’t give them more reasons to feel that way, always present with a smile wherever possible,  it will be returned to you in spades.

3. There’s a world of difference between truth and facts. Facts can obscure the truth.

If we were to believe the mainstream media of today, we would think the truth is no acts of kindness take place on the planet only war, famine and disasters. The truth is that human beings in general have good hearts it just doesn’t seems that media barons believe  that good news doesn’t sell newspapers unfortunately.

4. What you’re supposed to do when you don’t like a thing is change it. If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it. Don’t complain.

I have noticed I am spending less and less time with my friends who complain about things instead of getting out there and making the difference. Simply complaining never resolved a single thing in my life, actions did. I’m sure it’s the same for you.

5. Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.

Keep your ethics in line with what you choose to do for your lifetime, do not sell yourself short to be someones friend or lover. Self Love and Love of what you do and the actions you take to do it mean you will succeed in reaching your goals.

6. Have enough courage to trust love one more time and always one more time.

Never let the circumstances of a failed relationship kill off the possibility of love appearing in your life again and again. Underneath it all lies Love.

7. Ask for what you want and be prepared to get it!

Are we truly prepared to receive and live our dreams. We must be ready to transform our circumstances when our dreams start coming true. We cannot remain how we were our where we were.

8. Everything in the universe has a rhythm, Everything dances.

When you get down to the atom level, of which we are made you see everything is energy, dancing its dance in life, probably why I love 5 rhythm’s dancing so much.

9. I’ve learned that making a ‘living’ is not the same thing as ‘making a life’.

I have done many a job that did not turn me on in my 60 years of life, I was doing them to bring the cash in to survive. I hit many bumps and pot holes making my life but it is smoothing out these days. What you do for a living is just as important as who are your friends in “making a life”.

10. I’ve learned that whenever I decide something with an open heart, I usually make the right decision.

Heart space, I seem to know that when I decide from here it will all work out. When I listen to my mind lots of What If’s and it won’t seem to come up on a regular basis. Keep training in the methodology of listening to your heart, meditation helps.

11. Each person deserves a day away in which no problems are confronted, no solutions searched for.

Remember to give yourself holidays on a regular basis. Kick back and just relax, don’t save the planet on these days, recoup your energy, every champion deserves a break.

The search for meaning for yourself is on the inner path, the satisfaction in life is gained in service to others. Making lots of Money at the expense of not giving back to the world is soulless and will stunt your growth and success.

14. I’ve learned that I still have a lot to learn.

That famous quote that says whether you are 20 or 80 if you stop learning you die, never, ever give up the path of learning. As our life changes moment to moment so does what we need to know to flourish.

This is one of Mayas poems, it is beautiful in its simplicity, saying that whatever happens in our lives we will still rise.

Finding the Now!!


TheNow

There are so many schools of thought how to be in the Now emanating across the airwaves these days one does not really know who to believe or where to begin to find the most useful amongst them. I have tried many of them over my sixty years so I thought I would pass on a few I have found useful.

1. Calm Abiding Meditation

“There are many stages in mental development, but as soon as we are able to maintain the mind in a calm state, at that very moment there is joy and peace. This is reflected in the body becoming relaxed, and then the mind becomes more relaxed. As the mind calms down, the hidden enlightened qualities emerge more and more.”

—Venerable Khenpo Rinpoche

This statement sums up pretty much what you can achieve in the daily practice of Calm Abiding meditation, a practice I did for 7 years, and which I have recently taken up again after a break of 5 years. I trained to become a meditation Teacher during those 7 years and look forward to using those skills again after my practice is established again.

2. Hatha Yoga

Hatha yoga describes the physical practice of yoga. In fact, sometimes the name Hatha is used interchangeably with “yoga.” The slow pace and simple breathing exercises make it a great place to learn basic poses and become comfortable on the mat. My breath cycle improved from 9 seconds to 44 while I was doing Yoga and only gave it up when I discovered the beauty of Tai Chi.

3. Tai Chi

Developed originally in China as a self-defense strategy, or martial art, tai chi—the “supreme ultimate fist”—is practiced in modern times primarily as a gentle exercise technique. Described as “meditation in motion,” tai chi consists of a standing person performing a series of postures or bodily movements in a slow and graceful manner, with each movement flowing without pause to the next. According to Chinese legend, the technique was created by a Taoist monk who was inspired as he watched a crane and a snake do battle. Impressed by the ‘snake’s ability to subtly and swiftly avoid the bird’s thrusts, he devised a series of self-defense techniques that do not involve meeting the opponent’s force with force, but rather stress evading the blow; causing the opponent’s own momentum to work against him. I do the Beijing  24 practice daily and am learning he Bamboo practice. I Also do a warm up called Qigong

4. Qigong

Qigong, literally: “Life Energy Cultivation” is a practice of aligning body, breath, and mind for health, meditation, and martial arts training. With roots in Chinese medicine and Philosophy and martial arts, qigong is traditionally viewed as a practice to cultivate and balance qi (chi) or what has been translated as “life energy”.[1]

According to Daoist, Buddhist, and Confucian philosophy, respectively, qigong allows access to higher realms of awareness, awakens one’s “true nature”, and helps develop human potential. This noble practice has helped me regain my well being and is my current practice.

Tai Chi

5. 5 Rhythms Dance

5Rhythms is a movement meditation practice devised by Gabrielle Roth in the late 1970s. It draws from indigenous and world traditions using tenets of shamanistic ecstatic, mystical and eastern philosophy. Fundamental to the practice is the idea that everything is energy, and moves in waves, patterns and rhythms.

Gabrielle describes the practice as a soul journey, and says that by moving the body, releasing the heart, and freeing the mind, one can connect to the essence of the soul, the source of inspiration in which an individual has unlimited possibility and potential.

Getting back to this has allowed me to free my body and be much more present in the Now of my body.

6. Philosophers Notes

Brian Johnson made mega dollars in the I.T. industry then went to Bali and read all the great books. His gift to the world is he can summarise them beautifully.

This is such a superb idea, and Brian has such a natural, infectiously appealing way of making it relevant to just about everybody. I did one of these for about 60 days in a row then read the books that really touched my heart. 7. Communing with Nature

We forget that Gaia has been gifted  to remind us that we are all part of the greater plan. A weekend away from the chaos of the city in a forest , or near a beach or river restores our sense of Now. Leaving your phone, computer and work behind for this period has us focus on things like trees, animals and the fresh air that these places are filled with.

8. Growing and Cooking my own Food

Supermarkets are not even 100 years old, how did humans get their food prior to the existence of what is now the major supplier of Food for the human race. We grew our own and prepared and cooked it ourselves or brought it from our local producers. The joy of  planting you own vegetables and having your own chickens is immeasurable and making your own meals from fresh, non toxic produce bought from a local farmers market is so good for your health.

Small Changes, Big Results

These are the beginning of 300 foot trees if they survive their journey. This is the same for human beings, we are destined to be the leaders of the world if we fulfil our dreams or failed seedling if we do not. As seedlings/children we imagine amazing futures for ourselves and our friends, real or imagined. Then comes something called the education system that is more and more becoming about normalising children, packing them into little boxes so they all come out the same prepared for their careers in our economic world.

Would we have lost the space program if all the astronauts of the world have stuck to their childhood declaration and sought to walk on the Moon or Mars for that matter. Would we have the politicians we have today if all the 4 year old presidents and prime ministers who wanted to make a difference to their friends and family had followed their dreams and transformed their communities.

Ritu Ghatourey,a writer from India  said – Your life is made up of little moments, little efforts, little changes, big smiles, and all your hopes and dreams. Don’t think any problem in your life is any different. Don’t accept defeat. You were built to triumph through. I admit there are times where I have not lived up to these ideals.

Here are 7 things that can keep  you on the straight and narrow when you feel that the results you desire are slipping away from you.

1. You are exactly where you need to be.

All those thoughts that keep saying I’m not going to make it , I have failed are not correct, you are where you need to be right now on your life journey, you cannot be anywhere else as a matter of fact.

2. Trust yourself Vs. the Doubting monster.

Love and Respect for all, Everyone included. If you go through life with this koan there will be no room to doubt what you are doing will succeed because you will have the majority of people onside. People who exude love have to push away people who are willing to support them because there are so many of them lined up.

3. Give up resisting what life does every moment  of the day , Change!

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”

4. Never stop learning.

There is a quote that goes “Anyone who stops learning is old, whether 20 or 80. Anyone who keeps learning today is young. The greatest thing on the world today is to keep your mind young. I would add your heart and soul to this as well, the access to the knowledge of the elders is growing and refreshening our heart soul and mind is essential to keep our dreams and projects alive.

5.Develop a Gratitude practice.

We can be grateful for what we have in our lives, or complain and judge them, here are some reasons that being grateful works and makes us an all round better person.

  1. Feeling more connected (less lonely)
  2. Strengthened immune system
  3. Improved emotional equilibrium
  4. Better sleep
  5. Increased energy
  6. More confidence in ourselves
  7. Deeper relaxation
  8. Appear more attractive to others
  9. Increased creativity
  10. Easier bounce back from difficulty

I sure would  like some of these!! Gratitude journal and the writing of Thank you notes are great practices to help manifest this.

6. Sun Gazing.

The practice of sungazing closely resembles its name. At sunrise and/or sunset, when the sun is closest to the earth, sungazers stand barefoot on the earth and look directly at the sun for 10 seconds. Every day, 10 seconds are added and some sungazers eventually reach a duration of 44 minutes. This is meant to increase your melatonin and serotonin levels, our feel good hormones which also increase our overall energy.

7. Care with no Reason, Love with no Expectation.

Life rarely turns out exactly the way you want it to, but you still have an opportunity to make it great. You have to do what you can, with what you have, exactly where you are. It wont always be easy, but it will be worth it in the end. Remember that there is no perfect life, just perfect moments. And its these moments you must cherish; its these moments that make the whole journey worthwhile.

Give with All of Your Heart.

I chose to write on this because I recently watched the inspiring Youtube about Narayanan Krishnan, chef turned social worker  who gave up feeding the wealthy in his home city to feed the poor and the homeless, he stated that it wasn’t just about the food it had to also come with love for it to have any effect.

They say the heart is home to our soul and the mind is its advisor, more often than not when we follow our heart it turns out for the better versus the supposedly logical or illogical ideas the minds seems to offer up. The heart is the core of our joy, creativity and loving, It is when the heart is touched by a mighty passion that we perform at our best because nothing can stop us from achieving that which we intend to have happen as did the Incans when they built Macchu Picchu so many years ago.

Love is not discussed in the business world as it is deemed to be about making a profit over emotions such as love. Yet What is Love was the most searched question on Google in 2012. The ancient Greeks decided it was too complex to have one type of love and therefore they had six different words for six different types of love. The two most common are agape, love for everyone and pragma, the deep love that develops between couples over time. People do not tend to remember how much they earned over a lifetime but whose hearts they touched and who touched theirs.

A great exercise to strengthen your heart is to for the next 24 hours notice negative emotions when they happen. Behind each negative emotion there tends to be a negative thought. Notice what you are thinking and turn it around, flip it into something more positive. If you hold that negative thought for more than thirty seconds, start your twenty four hours again. This trains you in focusing on your positives, what you do brilliantly and what you wish to do better not what you did wrong.

What is Love to you? To me it often the simple things, the lick of a family pet, the laugh of my elderly mum, the passion I have for Interculturalism https://www.facebook.com/groups/Interulturalism/, my favourite music, the music of the indigenous people of my country, but is also the complex things such as the work of Medecins Sans Frontieres, doctors who work in the most dangerous places in the world to provide medical aid to the victims of war, plague and other disasters providing love to these people which would otherwise be unavailable.

If you are living the life you love you may have worked through these six questions:

What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail?

We all had dreams as children as to what we would do and be when we grew up, they were often crushed out of us as impractical and not a way to make a real living. So if you have been given the chance again to relive those dreams what have you chosen.

Is this an action that you would defend and be happy to explain to your parents?

Our major relationships are often with our parents and siblings, they know us the best as they have spent the most time with us. Can you tell your parents with passion what you are up to and have them get it.

Is it making the world a better place?

Self love is important but is what you are spending your time on improving the situation for others, giving them a heart felt service, lifting them up from the place they have fallen down to. This is an important question to have answered to be in love with your life.

When you think about it calmly. Does it feel like the right thing to do?

A lot of people meditate, when you meditate on what you are doing to fulfil your life, does it feel AOK, I should be doing this over anything else, simply the right thing to do.

Does it make you a better person?

If you are operating from your heart space, are you being a better person because of this or are you still the same self centred individual, one would hope not as you have spent the time and effort to investigate what it is that inspires you on a day to day basis.

Will someone else’s life be enriched as a result?

As I mentioned previously you do not remember how much money you have earned when you reflect on your life but who you have touched and who has touched you. As you fulfil your passion remember it is in the giving of your openheartedness that touches and enriches others lives. The focus in fulfilling your passion should be out there, the love of self is the internal quest.

If you give with all your heart I believe you will never work another day in your life, as you will love what you do and you will be living a life of passion.
